I see what you did there ;)

But in all seriousness, I don't think the price will go up. Apple likes to maintain their price points. They will simply address as many things as they can within the limit for margin that they have. If something is missing that we all want, it is likely that it just didn't fit within the budget. They will then make some of those options for build-to-order.

Have you forgot what happened to Mac mini on last update? The price for base configuration bumped up from $599 to $699

Except for the fact that Apple wants people to buy the Airs instead of keeping it a niche product like the Mini, because it makes higher profit margins than the Pro. I'd at least expect the price to remain the same.

I can say with 100% confidence that the price will go down, up or stay the same. :D

I'd expect it to remain the same, though. Some components have gotten cheaper, and some upgrades will add cost. Since the pricing model makes sense, I wouldn't expect much of a change if any (+/- $100 at most).

It's a 10.7 update, it isn't going to require vast amounts of RAM; heck if the OS took that much space that it required a machine with 4 gigs of RAM to run properly (including opening programs and whatnot) then I think there would seriously be something wrong.

It's hungrier than Snow Leopard, that's for sure. iTunes also used to be lean and mean and cause for laughing at lardy boy WMP. Then Apple succumbed to featuritis and shoehorned in useless fluff like coverflow, genius and ping. OSX has been heading the same way.

I have been trying out the GM on a 2007 Macbook with 2GB of ram. It does thrash the hard drive much more than SL. So much so that additional RAM has been ordered to stop the beachballing. Things may calm down after a couple of point updates, but except for SSD equipped machines, 2GB of RAM may prove irritating for many.

Backlit

I think they'll charge 50-100 for the backlit option even though its bs considering it was gratis in past models

Nah, they don't have it as BTO in any other model, I think theyll either have it for free or not at all. Hopefully they have it though.

ok.. have you actually used the GM? not saying you're wrong, but i'd like to hear it from someone who has actually spent a good amount of time with it (no offense).

I have spent the last week working on a white MacBook with the GM version of Lion. It has 2GB RAM, C2D and it runs flawlessly. It is the older pre-Nvidia GPU MacBook with Intel IGP even. It isn't good for graphics, but that isn't Lion's fault.

As far as apps are concerned, and general speed and usability, it's very good for an older MacBook. I am impressed by Lion, but I wish I had it running on my 13" MBA that is for sure. I guess I cannot tell the difference vs. Snow Leopard with 2GB RAM as all of my Macs have more RAM and are substantially faster, but given these specs I am really impressed.

A few things have confused me, and I don't see much advantage in most of the new features, but I don't think any C2D Mac with 2GB RAM will have any problems with Lion. 4GB will be better, sure, but 2GB RAM is probably a more common configuration in current use of all Macs today.

People are absolutely crazy. They are 100% sure apple will keep the price same or lower? Lower? Are you smoking weed?

What is apple doing for back to school promo this year? Was it as same as last year? No. It's worse.

You are expecting price to go lower?

Just because the components costs are down that doesn't mean apple will pass that to their customers. Best thing you can expect is to stay the same. MBP saw dramatic price increase this year on 15 inch and 17 inch.

If Apple introduced a new MacBook Air model with a 512GB 400MBit/sec SSD and 8GB of RAM, you can guarantee the price will be higher (somewhere in the $2300 range). The Solid State drive is the most expensive part of the MacBook Air, and Apple charges out the ass for RAM upgrades.

The 256GB SSD/4GB RAM models with the newer processors should be priced the same as the current models. New MBA models with similar specs but newer processors and Thunderbolt should be priced in the same range as the current ones. Look at prices starting at $999 for the base 11.6" model. Apple may decide to equip the base model with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Who knows?

I'd be surprised if they had a 512 ssd option. I just don't see people wanting to spend that much for a bto upgrade. I'm guessing Apple would charge somewhere around $500 for the upgrade.

If the price going to stay the same, we probably can expect faster RAM but still at 2GB base, backlit keyboard, thunderbolt port.

SSD still highly unlikely to have any changes, even 64GB vs 128GB still quite a difference in price, let alone using the crazy speed 400MByte/s (400Mbit is around 50MByte).

Though, I still don't get how people want a higher resolution screen, do they actually can read texts comfortably on anything smaller than the current 11" and 13" MBA? To me, the 13" MBA is on the borderline of being readable, anything smaller isn't going to be readable.

Hence the term "pro."

By the way, obviously I hope it includes 4GB standard and offers an 8GB upgrade, but for reasons I gave about money I don't believe Apple will include 4GB standard. I just think they sell way more ultimate confit MBAs when people otherwise would buy base model if it had 4GB RAM standard.

It is always about the money and we are not just talking about $99 but from $1299 to $1799.

It's only pro for marketing. It used to be just a unibody macbook. It has a bad integrated intel gpu

Oh believe me I know that, as I am all against the Intel HD 3000 IGP. My point is that Apple will probably keep 2GB so it can sell the upgrades to the ultimate configuration MBAs in the store. Obviously I hope it's 4GB RAM standard with an 8GB upgrade option instead...

BTW, look at how much RAM both the white MacBook and Mac mini have standard... 2GB. They are not Apple's "Pro" Macs.

Exactly! I've seen countless posts from people reasoning that with the loss of the 320M, suddenly the price is going to shoot down. Jaw-dropping naïveté.

9to5 is reporting that prices on Mac hardware are being cut internationally. This may or may not affect U.S. prices. It would be amazing if the Airs were cheaper.
