Upgrading here at Christmas time iPhone x Plus need more battery life and I do miss the screen size watching my movies.

Anyone here considering upgrading from iPhone X to same-size iPhone "XS"?
If the monthly installments on the iPhone Upgrade Program are the same, I do not see a reason not to upgrade. Same price (to me) with the latest technology. No brainer. I got the X in December last year, so my upgrade eligibility is in November - once all the initial orders are out of the way and the hype has calmed down.

Even thinner bezels and 4GB would make think about upgrading from the X I have now. But I just don’t see how they will improve the AMOLED this year. So not sure it’ll be worth upgrading this year.

In my opinion it wont' unless you want the bigger size. Otherwise after the new phone excitement wears down you'll be feeling "hey, it is the exactly same phone". Maybe if you really have a use for the Pencil it might be worth getting it, but for average user, it won't.

My personal predictions are:

A12 processor
4 GB RAM (+ 1 Gb)
Same display, no ProMotion
New color option (gold/copper)
Improved camera set-up (dual)
Improved Face-ID with faster and vertical identification
No new storage size
No in-the-box 18w power adapter (but slightly improved to 7,5 or 10w)
No in-the-box headphone jack adapter
Apple pencil support with a new hardware option (smaller in size, coming in October)
Improved water resistance with possible no-click volume and power-buttons
Improved fast charging / wireless charging

--> I think the focus will be on the 6,5" model and on accessories.

+ a sneak peak for new iPads coming in October (only one size 11-12" LCD, no notch (thicker bezels than iPhone X), A12(x), new pencil(s), ProMotion, 4 GB Ram, massive camera upgrade, new keyboards)

I think you’re spot on.

As to whether the OP, should upgrade...

I guess if you’re the sort of person that upgraded from the 6s to the 7, then yes.

But if say, you only upgraded to the X from the 6s (or 6), probably not.

The voice or reason. Good advice (although a bit boring). But these are WAY, WAY, expensive.

Take care.

Exactly right. If I'm paying monthly, it may as well be for the newest technology.

If you're on the yearly upgrade plan then sure, nothing to lose. OTOH, it is very doubtful the improvements will be worth the price differential between what a new X2 costs vs. what you could sell your original X for. Two or even three year upgrade cycles make much more sense. For most users even a doubling of processor power would be pretty much unnoticeable.

If I had an X I would probably wait for the rear-facing 3D scanning sensors that could be on the 2019 devices. That will make AR better if you are into that kind of thing.

For the most part I can't think of any compelling changes. But if they brought TouchID back (under the LCD, not adding a button back), then that would be worth it to a lot of people who still prefer that.

Monthly payments are loans. You keep tacking on charges, you go deeper in.
Don’t really see what you’re getting at here. iPhone Upgrade Programme is interest free. If you upgrade, all you’re doing is starting a fresh agreement by handing back your device to settle the old one. You’re not tracking charges on or getting deeper into anything.

I went from 6 to 6S to 7 and in retrospect wish I had not.. if the only upgrade is a triple lens camera, faceid, faster processors etc.. then I think I will try out the Note 9 and keep my X for the year..

I am much more interested in what they do with the Apple Watch this year.. so much so that a greatly improved watch may keep me with iOS again...

its not really a loan, its just a new way of paying for a phone without paying in full when you buy it and there is Zero % Interest, so you have nothing to loose and when you decide you are tired of paying monthly, you can pay off all at once.

maybe im just getting old but i dont even love my X
I keep feeling like I got fleeced with the $1,000 price tag. So anytime I find a feature that I liked, I still don't feel like I got a good deal. Purely emotional buy, but I didn't feel like I had an option.
The 8 felt too gimped at the time with the low battery capacity and lower RAM, and the 8 Plus was too big. So the only 'option' for me was $1,000 phone...which even now still sounds ridiculous.

I think whether it’s worth it comes down to the individual user.

For me it is worth it because I want a bigger display so I’ll be getting the X plus.

Just get an X+

This way you can tell yourself it's a 'reasonable' upgrade.

i wonder if the X+ will sell out immediately. I think the new gold color option definitely will.

Good question. Soon we can all start training for the event. I did last time and it payed off.

The quick and the X-less. (or I should say 'X+less)

I'll be ready this year. I almost got screwed over last year but was able to pick up an X on day 2 with the reserve and pickup thing.

I believe the 2018 5.8 iPhone X will stay fairly similar to what it is now, with some upgrades, the real advancements this year will likely be more exclusive to the 6.5 iPhone X perhaps with Apple Pencil support, landscape mode (Which the 5.8 iPhone does not support), camera upgrades, etc. Face ID improvements should be likely for all the iPhone models, with the exception of 6.1 LCD iPhone could retain the first GEN face ID.

I think everyone needs to remember it took two phone generations for Touch ID 2.0
