There will be no need for a notch because we will all be chipped with 3-nanometer, 200-core VR chips in our brains. These chips will have access to carrier networks, spy satellites, amazon and grubhub.

This image below is the end game. The question remains: How many years will we have to wait to get it?

All phones, any brand, are ultimately going to end up visually very similar in being all screen, minuscule borders and no holes or notches IMO.

I sincerely hope that phones will become obsolete in 2030. (at least not one that has to be held in someone's hand)

By then, clearly no. But now, it’s clearly worth it.
About the bump, I’d bet it will stay because camera technology needs thickness, and even if we have “magic” (significantly thinner modules) in the future, it won’t reach a quality level where adding a bump is not worth it.

I think this is the exact reason why Apple still doesn't do dramatic changes to its design. They want it to be recognizable, just like the iMac's chin. 100% avoidable but they still kept it, otherwise it would've lost its "iMac" look.

Nowadays, if you see a phone with a notch, almost everytime you'd instantly know that it's an iPhone. If they just do a completely uninterrupted screen, how will people know that that's an iPhone?

I think the notch will be gone but there will be another design choice that we haven't seen in other phones yet, that will distinguish the iPhone from the market.

We’re talking about 9 years here. In perspective, the iPhone 5 is 9 years old.

it wasn't that long ago that if I said "Apple iPhone will become the bestselling smartphone on the planet", people would look at me like I was crazy. :) Who knows what else Apple(or anybody else) will come up with in 9 years. :)

True, 9 years ago I don’t think anyone was calling the iPhone a mature product.

Here we are now running out of ideas about how to radically improve the iPhone. Sure, finding a way around the notch, increasing battery life, possibly making it foldable are all things to look forward to. But even a foldable, notchless, mega battery phone is still just a phone.

Something new will come along that renders this device somewhat irrelevant, just like the iPhone itself basically eliminated the demand for the iPod.

I wonder when rumors about AR will become reality and will it be something consumers latch onto?

Not to dampen the spirit but I would not know if I would be alive in 2030. I would be happy to be alive tomorrow and the day after, and the day after, for a few decades, yes. But COVID-19 has ensured that I look only to the immediate future - concentrate on staying alive today. Cannot say for tomorrow, certainly not 2030.

Good God man, way to bring the atmosphere down.
