nobody is saying apple pays 1000 for a cpu. What WE pay is 20% above msrp to play in the garden. :D

We also pay for the base model in addition to the +20% MSRP. 1200.00 is only for the upgrade, you've already payed for the base model's parts (PC shops usually reduce the price because, for some reason, they realize the base part is not shipping with your order)

Yup. but I save that in 2 days of no downtime.

 What does that have to do with anything? How does it play into the cost of an upgrade path? Downtime is because you either have a computer or you don't. Are we you talking time saving from how much the CPU upgrade will save you?

Im saying that by using my software and hardware with an approved system I have less risk of things messing up and going down. That peace of mind is worth the extra $1200.

i build my own pcs for home use btw. I just built a k2500 8gig ram and a 6970 2gb BUT this is a work computer and I want full security that my system has been tested and is fully functional with my software.

Gotcha. Makes sense now. Users buy Xeon's for this same reason.

Yup. People wonder why the xeon part is almost a full tick (or tock) behind the consumer parts? Its because of the massive amounts of validation the part has to go thru before its given a green light.
