I know what tethering is, but from what I read I thought a tethered jailbreak meant you had to tether to a laptop running the jailbreak software in order to reboot your phone.
Either way I'm glad I don't have to do that.
That's sort of correct, you just plug it in and rerun Redsn0w or Blackra1n, but your phone is not magic, just the old bootrom
