Will there new a new sub form for iMac Pro?

I fully agree and this subject was discussed before, at a time where no hands on experience and understanding was available to the Macrumors Forum Staff. There are quite some unique features and behaviors in the iMac Pro justifying its own group forum..They have it for the MacBook and MacBook Pro..

We don't know yet is the iMac Pro is one-off thing to make people waiting for the next modular Mac Pro happy or a first product of a regular product line.
 
While I bought the iMac Pro, I was under the impression that the iMac Pro was a stop measure for people who needed a professional computer that couldn't wait until the new Mac Pro came out. It would be silly to have a separate forum is that is the case.
 
I think a separate forum is due.
Whether its a stop gap or not, its still a separate model released by Apple.....

Most differences will probably be added to a future version of the regular iMac such as T2, new thermal management, non-upgradeable RAM and Vega GPU.

Does Xeon and ECC RAM warrant a new forum? Maybe, maybe not.

That was my point, there's really nothing in it that warrants a seperate forum. The overview is cluttered enough alread as it is IMHO.

Ummm, besides the display and stand, it’s a completely different machine. Plus I’m really tired of looking through posts that say, if I put an ssd in my iMac, will it be faster? An iMac Pro forum would solve that.

You make a good point. Looking solely at the devices, I don't think the iMP is different enough to have it's own forum but if you look at the targeted audience then yes, the iMP forums would probably contain more relevant posts for iMP owners and less people who don't really know what they are talking about.

Umm, I think you're bringing up a class issue. Are you saying that people who spend more money are smarter? :)

I think you missed his point. It has nothing to do with spending money. It has everything to do with target audience. He just wants a forum dedicated solely to iMac Pro owners and their problems, as opposed to a generic iMac forum. MacRumors separates the Macbook and Macbook Pro forums because of the differing problems between the two grades of notebook, so logically the iMac and iMac Pro should also be separated.

Au contraire, I got the point real good. The Macbook Pro (and the Mac Pro) has been a major product line at Apple for quite some time. The iMac Pro should get its own forum when it too becomes a major product line, not a single edition, which is all it is now. And the Macbook Pro did not get its own forum for quite a while. I agree with the poster who suggested that it is more likely that the iMac Pro's features will be incorporated into future iMacs rather than continue a separate iMac Pro. I have a 2017 27" "regular" iMac, and I would also prefer a forum where I don't have to see posts about how to upgrade 2007 20" iMacs. But somehow, I manage. And so should people interested in iMac Pro information (as am I by the way, and I'm happy NOT to have to switch forums).

Obviously you don't get it. Let's make this really simple for you...Pros spend more money, and yes Pros are smarter. Most of the Pros on here are smarter than Apple Geniuses. I know I am.
 
I know that there has been previous discussion about this but I would also like to see a dedicated iMP sub-forum. I think that having one would increase the discussion about this machine. If the new sub-forum does not work out it can always be folded back into the general iMac sub-forum.

I just want to throw my hat in the ring on this one.

My last two machines have been Mac Pros. A 2006 1,1 cheese grater followed by a Late 2013 (arrived in 2014) 6,1 trashcan. I was waiting for the next Mac Pro, however I had reason to need to upgrade quickly due to hardware problems and bought an iMac Pro last week. I'm very happy with it, by the way.

After saying my farewells on the Mac Pro sub forum I came over here to see what was going on with the iMac Pro and can completely agree with (mostly) everyone's comments so far. The computer is different enough to warrant its own thread. There, I've said it.

Apart from the screen, everything else about this machine is different. It's not a stopgap while we all wait for the new Mac Pro, as Apple have clearly indicated. They want to offer a range of machines that will suit different pro users. Some will use a MacBook, some might opt for the new Mac Mini. Some will continue to wait for next year's new MP. But for those of us who have bought an iMac Pro it most definitely 100% deserves its own space on the MR Forums.

Apart from the screen, everything else about the iMac Pro is different from other iMacs. Many of the posts in the iMac forum will never be of interested to those of us who have purchased this computer. Similarly, posts about the iMac Pro are unlikely to float the boat of most iMac owners.

I've previously owned Mac Pros and found the forums on there very useful as most posts were relevant to me, however on the iMac forum most iMac Pro threads get totally lost.

The iMac Pro most definitely deserves its own space on the MR Forums. It would be great to see that happen!

EDIT: I got thoroughly confused there for a moment. My previous comment (above this one) was posted to this thread in the iMac forums. I posted this message to the site feedback forum. The first thread has been moved to the site feedback forum and this message has been merged into that. I now need a lie down in a darkened room as this all turning a bit X-Files.

As I stated before, there has been enough hands on experience and iMac Pro knowledge that justifies a revisit of the initial decision taken by the moderators and staff. The iMac Pro is very unique and deserves its own unique discussion. We can only suggest in a humble way..
