The line up should have always been only 3 models in my opinion

I find the mini and the base model iPhone redundant as well as the pro and pro max.

It should have been

1. Iphone se (refreshed every other generation similar to the original S line)

2. Iphone (base model) with a mini size but the same features as the higher end model.

3. Iphone pro which marries the pro and pro max.

An entry, high end and premium model.

Those focused on money can buy the Se, those wanting size can get the base and those wanting say more size AND maybe slightly cameras have a premium.

Unfortunately 6.2” is too late for some of us. And in a few years it’ll be 6.4/6.5” etc.

The SE is physically larger with a physically smaller screen. No thanks.

Apple should alternate years. 15 mini, 16 Plus, 17 mini, etc. If they don't have enough demand for a new product every year, but the plus/mini still have their niches, then I would like Apple to upgrade every other year. The iPad mini is awesome and is upgraded less frequently than others and it works for consumers.

I should add that I still see no compelling reason to go for a pro phone. I don't take a million pictures, I don't care about premium materials. I went to the Plus this time after loving the mini 12. I like that in the current 14 lineup the Plus is the 2nd lightest phone. I like the real estate. I love the battery life. But for a compelling mini, I'd consider going back.

I would think so too for me but I really like always on display. Like my pics are just random food, documents, etc…. And a regular iPhone will do these things. But the pro phone features like displaying sports scores on dynamic island or on the main screen while it lays on the table is awesome. Especially during the play offs it’s great.

This is the size I'm looking for, do you think it will ever come back? The slightly smaller iPhone 5/5s/SE was also perfect for me.
The Mini has failed for Apple to date. I think the issue is that people don't want to pay a premium for a small iPhone.

I do think the Mini can and will do well in the lineup at a lower price point. Ideally $499 as a starting point. Then you just keep it in the lineup and only update it say every 2-3 years. Essentially the iPhone SE.

I don't think the Mini should replace the SE. Most consumers want a larger iPhone at this point. Ideally there will be an SE at the 6.1" size in the next update and then also a Mini alongside it.

Has it failed? selling 20-30 million doesn't seem a failure. One thing I find is that Apple doesn't market mini devices well. Most non-Mac rumors never knew about the iPhone mini or iPad mini, and most don't know about the 14 plus. When I had the mini, people were always shocked it was so much more normal-sized that they expected because of the name. Now I have people shocked I have a plus phone that is much cheaper than the Pro Max. Apple knows they have a winner when they add "pro" to a product. But calling the iPhone mini the iPhone Air would have been better. Apple really needs to clean up their naming conventions.

It has failed by Apple's standards. iPhone Air is a terrible name. Mini was perfect.

The issue is that there is no market for a premium small iPhone. I do think the form factor can work in the lineup with smaller starting price and only being updated ever 2-3 years.

It’s a failure because Apple sold 59% more iPhone 14 Plus than 13 mini with higher ASP.

iPhone 14 Pro Max is Apple’s top seller without much marketing. Ditto with HomePod mini.

Consumers know what they want and it isn’t the iPhone mini.

The only problem with the 13 Mini was the price. Even now it still cost €700 for 128GB version…

That's why I'm not buying it and still keeping my first gen SE. It's way too expensive, especially for a phone that's already a few years old. I would MAYBE buy it for 400 (for the 128 GB version).

The times of $400 phones from apple won’t come back. Even the SE with 64GB costs more.

So there is only the used market left

The Pros have become too expensive and too heavy. Although the pro camera features are handy, the improvement over a 1-3 year older iPhone isn't significant enough. However, I would go pro for super zoom features.

Maybe €400 is a bit of a stretch, but €700 for almost 2 year phone is too much…
I hear you. Unfortunately thats apples prices across the product line.

The ipad 1-4 for example was 380€ and now its double the price

Sure, they’ll rise the prices as much as they can/need… and its up to us to decide if we willing to pay these prices.

Right there with you on Heavy.
I'm just a regular guy with pockets.
I don't know how people carry around the pro phone in their pocket, much less if it also has a case on it.

Mini phones have relatively low market appeal because the phone is the main and sometimes only device for people. It serves as a:
-Phone
-TV for watching content
-Computer
-Gaming console

Unlike Macrumours members, your average Joe can’t afford the latest ipad, iphone and mac - neither might them aspire to have all three. There is also a major convinience factor to owning a does-it-all device that’s always in your pocket. :)

Also the avarge Joe outside this forum slowly slowly cant afford new iPhones because of their high prices, let alone changing every year to the latest model…
