So we have some solid people saying new iPad pros this September or October. I personally was planning to not upgrade but when they released the 6GB 1TB option I started to think I may upgrade the next time for RAM.
I pretty much have upgraded every new iPad each year, this is going to be tough to not sell my iPad Pro 3 and get one of these.
Le sigh. Lol

So what about all of you, will you buy the 2029 iPP or are you thinking this update will be pretty minimal (camera and processor?) Maybe they’ll do some new screen tech but no rumors of that.

lol I don’t see the “solid” people suggesting a new iPad... few rumors at best. Nothing huge. Personally I only think an upgrade for the “iPad” will be announced. Whenever the next upgrade for the pros it will be a spec upgrade and rumors of more cameras but tbh it’s a waste on an iPad. 4GB of RAM is fine and even 6GB is kind of overkill for an iPad. Don’t see why would you need to upgrade every new iPad but you do you

No. With the rumored upgrade being new camera and processor, my 2018 12.9 Pro looks more than just fine (and will likely remain so for some time as prices are reaching levels such that an upgrade becomes untenable).

Yeah. I’ve own iPad 1 2010, 2, 3, 4, Air, Air 2

I think I skipped 2015 iPad cause there was none

iPad Pro 9.7 (March 2016)

iPad Pro 10.5 (December 2017)

And just pickup iPad Pro 11 (2018 model year)

Plus got kids iPads 5th and 6th gen and iPad Air 3.

Can’t believed I’ve owned every single year iPad except the minis

I can’t say for 2029 but I will buy a 2019 if there is one.

I would not bother if I had the 2018, but I don’t have the 2018. I have the 2017 which I just bought recently and normally I would not bother to upgrade this soon from that either, but since my wife wants my 2017, I’ll need to get something.

No, I don't think so.

I'm still on an Air 2. If the new 11 inch Pro gets 6GB on all configurations, 128 GB base storage and a slightly stronger chassis, I'll finally buy a new one. :)

Won’t happen on all accounts but maybe a stronger chassis but I don’t see an issue with it. They know 64GB is not enough and will gladly take the $150 to upgrade to 256. 6gb of RAM is overkill for iOS ( iPadOS as well) don’t think they want to lose profit margins or increase prices to add 2gb more overall.

Yet they’ve sold 6 GB iPad Pros since 2018.

6 GB is overkill for iPadOS, yet they’ve sold 6 GB iPad Pros since 2018. Yeah, that makes sense.

They did for only one model ... the 1tb model . The model that sold the least of all the models probably. 6gb is OVERKILL for iPadOS for now . If iPadOS needed 6gb to run then Apple would of added it in every model of the iPad. As it is iPadOS will run on the Air 2 which only has 2gb. iOS has never been ram dependent like it is on Android. The next iPad can run with the norms and keep 6gb on the 1tb model if they chose too and be fine with it .

Edit: cool edit but I already got your og post

Also if you read I said overall... which meant on all the other ones ....need to stop selective reading to try to make a point out of thin air.

Of course they wouldn't. That makes no sense whatsoever.

iPadOS 13 only needs 2 GB RAM to run. 3 GB is better. 4 GB is even better. 6 GB is overkill for some people, but is good for others.

Just like macOS Catalina only needs 4 GB to run. 6 GB is better. 8 GB is even better. 16 GB is overkill for some people, but is good for others.

Note that you can't even buy a new 15" MacBook Pro these days with 8 GB RAM. They come with 16 GB minimum.

I said on all configurations. I don’t need 1 TB of storage, so I’m not going to pay for it just to get more ram.
Indeed. That is a good reason for waiting, as I am.

You’re point ? You don’t have RAM options in iPads .... you get what they decide in mobile devices. If you’re willing to pay a $450 premium for 2gb extra then they let you. 4gb is good enough for iPadOS for the foreseeable future . They could very well not add 6gb for a few years . Or they could with the next iPad. Funny part is they don’t even advertise how much ram it has on the website so it tells you how important or not it is for it ...

Your foreseeable future must just be until fall 2019 then, or else you consider the iPad Pro just to be a consumer device. iPadOS 13 is a game changer, and desktop class iPadOS applications like Photoshop are coming this year.

As mentioned before, part of the reason they don't advertise RAM is because traditionally the Android tablets have had way, way more RAM than the iPads ever did. Current Android tablets that are priced like iPad Airs already have 8 GB RAM.

iPad OS may not need 6GB ram, but it comes in handy when you do a lot of heavy photo editing on your iPad.

Lol you don’t get it do you ? Android tablets need more RAM because that’s Android. It uses more in the background then iOS does ( ipados is just a naming scheme still built off iOS so for all intent and purposes I’ll just call it by either). Sure iPad could use more ram but it doesn’t need it. ipadOS is not the game changer like fans want to think. It makes it closer to a laptop replacement but not there yet.

No, I don't have any plans to buy any more iPad Pros since I just got a 2018 iPad Pro 11 and it's plenty fast. I find the rumors for the new iPad Pro having a triple camera array ridiculous since hardly anyone uses an iPad for it's rear camera. Also, I don't see them adding 6GB of ram to all models since it's Apple, they are not going to do that since it drives up the cost.

I do some editing nothing major... but I still don’t see a “need” like major need. It’s nice but if they kept 4GB for most models for another model year I don’t see a big bottleneck. If they update the pros in 2020 like I think they will then more likely to get 6GB of Ram

Lol you don't get it do you? It doesn't matter that they need more, because they can still advertise that they have more RAM. Whether or not iPadOS is more efficient is irrelevant here because I'm talking about marketing. Apple would prefer not to market that they have 4 GB RAM, if Android tablets already have twice as much.

BTW, your argument is exactly the same was the ones made for the original iPad Air. I suggested waiting a generation because the amount of RAM would double, but people were adamant that iOS didn't need 2 GB RAM. And then the 2 GB RAM iPad Air 2 came out in the next generation a year later.

And it happened again when the iPad Pro 9.7" came out. Wait a generation and the RAM doubled to 4 GB. That was an easier call though since its big brother the 12.9" was already out with 4 GB RAM, back in 2015. IOW, Apple has already had 4 GB RAM in some of their iPad Pros for 4 years. It's now overdue for a RAM upgrade, and iPadOS 13 is the perfect time to do it.

However, it will be interesting to see how Apple deals with the extra RAM once they make 6 GB mainstream, because according to Savage Interactive, the makers of Procreate, right now in iOS 12 the extra RAM is mainly allocated for stuff like multitasking, which makes the OS smoother when you have a lot of apps open. My understanding though is that in iOS 12, RAM allocation to individual apps stays the same on 6 GB models. However, it's likely that 2019 iPad Pros won't even be able to run iOS 12. They would all likely ship with iPadOS 13.

In the Air to the Air 2 case the iPad needed more RAM ... I waited for the Air 2. In the iPad Pro case 4GB is plenty. Actually that procreate you’re talking about States the 2GB extra is to help with the 1TB storage and not used for the app. According to another user here.

That is incorrect. That was supposition, but nowhere has it ever been confirmed that extra RAM is necessary to manage 1 TB storage.

I don't know why that myth is so popular here on these forums.

As for Procreate, here is their exact quote:

"Hi everyone! Our engineers tested the 1TB iPad Pro 12.9" 3rd gen, and it turns out that Apple has allocated this extra RAM to things like iOS Multitasking, so that the devices run faster and smoother when you're using more apps. If an iPad comes out where there is more RAM allocated for the app developers, then we should be able to offer more layers and larger canvases."

To put it another way, if Apple opens up the limits on RAM on 6 GB devices for individual applications, Savage will gladly update Procreate to access more layers. And indeed, some Procreate users are already asking for more layers.

I don’t use procreate so I have no reason to look up the ceo, dev or etc . Either way they don’t have access to the extra 2GB anyways. Nothing in ipados says otherwise so at the end you get what ?
