MP 7,1 Will you join a Class Action if Apple Refreshes the Mac Pro with a 64 COre AMD Ryzen CPU ?

I canceled my Mac Pro order when I learned Apple released the Mac Pro with an End Of Life CPU and Chipset. I love what Apple has offered with the Mac Pro but an Intel CPU while I understand why the used Intel. Due to availability and dirt cheap pricing and PCI Lanes and Memory amount. All valid reasons.

In a year or two AMD will be so far ahead of Intel Apple will have Zero Choice but to Refresh the Mac Pro with Ryzen 5 or EPYC 4. CPU and Chipsets. Which will run circles around a 28 Core Xeon. (Fun fact the 3990X already does for a fraction of the Price)

Anyways, please share your thoughts.

another analogy I could think of, would be like buying a PlayStation 4 at double the price in October 2020 when the PlayStation 5 will be out in November 2020 at half the price.
 
Too bad for them.

Apple is already testing AMD CPU for MacBook series by adding AMD APU in macOS Catalina. TB3 is now certified for AMD motherboards so there is no reason to keep Intel CPU instead of AMD CPU.

It would be thrown out of court before it even came to trial.

How true. And if you overextend your finances to buy an MP7,1 based on guesses for residual value after a few years, and if that residual value crashes because the MP8,1 is far faster and cheaper - you have no case.

Or maybe, it could be interesting during bankruptcy court proceedings. (Not as a claim against Apple, just as an explanation as to why you made the bad decisions that lead to the bankruptcy - it was stupidity, not willful fraud....)

I'm happy to have contributed to a successful class action suit against Apple - but this one has no merit.

You need to learn about damages and proper standing in a court of law. What you described is not anything close to a proper class action suit.

That's nuts. You take your chances. if this is the last Mac Pro ever made, I made out. If they upgrade it next year to PCI 5 and 64+core, GOOD FOR THEM.

Go ask all the 15" MBP 2018/2019 owners how they feel about the 16" destroying prices for them? Not that great, but them's the breaks.

We should all applaud apple killing their previous models with new way better ones.

I have a 28core way overpriced machine from them, if they come out with something that obliterates my machine, I will applaud them for it.

I don't see any valid cause for suing a tech company for improving their tech.

I'm always amused by some of the ideas that AMD apologists post here, what's the base for a class action suit? That Apple released an improved Mac Pro down the line?

Btw, why would Apple ever release an improved and half the price Mac Pro? When Apple ever released an improved product cheaper?

If you take out price cuts, like with late-2013 Mac Pro back in 2017, or Macs slightly modified to be cheaper for the EDU market, like iMac early-2013 and several others, Apple never released an improved Mac cheaper.

Or they could just take a look at their numbers, conclude that the Mac Pro customer base amounts to < .1% of their profits, and just let it sit there for half a decade -- or forever. See also: Mac Pro, the last 10 years.

It's been a decade since the last Cheesegrater (or some minor speed bump in 2012); followed by Trashcan in 2013, which was kinda like an iMac Pro but in a Trashcan, followed by talking about making a fully modular Mac Pro, followed by kicking iMac Pro out the door to try and appease the .1% who need it, followed by ... Cheesegrater upscale edition with $400 wheels option, because they actually listened to their target demographic and realized the majority of people who need one, don't really care what it costs. I mean, who's buying them? People who use them to make a lot more money, people within organizations spending someone else's money, and high net worth individuals who are not overwhelmed by the price, because it doesn't cost more than their car ... plus, also, a small handful of diehards who may be living in a double-wide and their new computer does cost more than their car, but they have their priorities.

We're all rambling on a forum. There's history, which doesn't look so good, and there's the future, which is uncertain and the end is always near. No, wait, somebody else already said that.

I don't know. How can you sue Apple for updating their hardward?
As much as I loath Apple's decision to go the current MP7,1 at this stage at that price level, you have no base.

Honestly, 7,1 owner should be content even if much better product comes out in less than a year. You were vigorously defending Apple's for what it is.

A class action suit may not work as it’s not related to any widespread hardware faults. Maybe more of a “Mass Customer Petition” is more appropriate. I think it’s just fine that you completed your 7,1 Mac Pro order.
 
No justification for a law suit.
You knew the specs when you bought it.

Wish I could afford the 7,1.
Looks like a beautiful machine.

Maybe I'll benefit by waiting a while.
My creaky 5,1 is still cranking out complex music.
A little more power would be cool, but I'm still O.K.
More often than not, the limitation is me, not the machine.
 
Apple developed the MacPro way before the release of the newest AMD CPUs. All Macs are based on TB3 technology which is still not purely supported by AMD.

Maybe there will be a AMD-CPU based Mac in the future but I'm quite sure this won't happen. It just makes no senese for Apple with ARM chips coming and solid Xeon solutions available. I personally prefer an "older" but surely reliable CPU over the newest, hottest and speedies CPU on the market. And so does Apple.
 
Apple can release whatever they like in whatever way they like. Is there better performance-based value out there, sure, but if you're committed to macOS then the MP is what it is.

For whatever reason, and one can come up with many, Apple are currently committed to Intel and while AMD currently have an upper hand that doesn't mean things will stay like that. If anything this is good overall as this means Intel will finally pull their fingers out and fix their roadblocks.

I disagree totally. Apple needs to be significantly more agile than they are. They need to take less than 6 years to update a top tier pro system and they need to push the boundaries. Otherwise others will do it for them. Those that need the MP have work to be doing and have better things to do that give adoring puppy-eyed looks in the direction of their computer. Any performance that's left on the table translates to days or even weeks per year of lost productivity. This is real money being tossed out the window.

I'm just glad it's not me that needs such a system.
