Will You Miss "iPod" in iOS 5?

While I honestly never carried an iPod around everywhere, I still consider it a classic Apple product/idea.

I am somewhat disappointed that in the iPhone version of iOS 5, there is no longer "iPod," and you now get to your music and videos separately. I always liked the idea of an "iPod," on my phone.

Anyone else? Sure, the functionality is still there. However, I almost want my "iPod," back!
 
Yes because now I need to go somewhere else to find my movies. Yet another sparsely used "apple" app.
 
I preferred the old iPod versus the new "Music" and "Movies".

Any reason given to why they split it up? I rarely if ever watch videos but when I did, it was nice just being there in the iPod.

Would really like for them to go back to that.
 
As for the iPad I didn't like when you play a new song it automatically goes to full screen cover art. Now it doesn't do that so I'm happy :)

iPhone had iPod app (Music and Videos)
iPod touch had Music and Video app
iPad had iPod app (only music and audio podcast) and a Video app

with iOS 5, they are all unified now with a Music and Video app

That was supper annoying.
 
I realy miss being able to select chapters within audiobooks (plus seing the chapter title and artwork while playing it) on my iPad.

Is this also the case with iOS 5 on the iPhone? (just asking because the lacking functionality of lopckscreen notifications compared to lockinfo plus dumbed down handling of audiobooks would sum up to a dealbreaker, keeping me from upgrading to iOS 5 on it too)
 
I nostalgia'd for a bit when I found out. The iPod has been around for 10 days short of 10 years and now the flagship mobile device isn't one. I mean, I know it's just splitting hairs, but I did always enjoy knowing I had an "iPod" within my iPhone. That, and it takes up an extra space on my home screen (OCD kicking in). It's like, Steve introduced the iPod and now that he's gone, it (within the iPhone, at least) has gone with him.

But, in all seriousness and practicality, the only gripe I have is that Videos takes up that extra space that could be used for something else. Also, the Music icon is garbage compared to the iPod icon.
 
the Music app isn't so nice for Audiobooks on iPad now

The "new" Music.app on iOS 5 on iPad does not support viewing of Audiobook (.m4b / .aa) chapters and their titles. Nor does it provide for direct selection of chapters. This is a loss of functionality compared with the iPod.app on iOS 4.3 on iPad. The prior app provided a means of viewing the chapters and their titles and the direct selection of a desired chapter.

The current Music.app does provide for the user to tap the fast forward / backward buttons to skip to chapter marks but there is no display of the chapter title for a selection so there's no useful way to know where one is in the Audiobook. Further, Audiobooks frequently contain 10's of chapters in a segment (usually limited to around 100 MB / segment (track if you prefer) by Audible).

The iPhone (and I presume iPod Touch) version of the Music.app retains the chapter viewing and selection functionality from previous iOS 4.3. Only the iPad version of the app has lost the functionality.

Without viewing of chapters and their titles and direct selection of chapters, Audiobooks in the Music.app are basically unusable.
 
I've made an iPod folder containing 'music' and 'videos' in it and placed it on the dock.

No doubt I'll find it annoying pressing two buttons and will change it back to being separate before too long.

Hum...not a horrible idea.

I do think I will miss iPod. Oh well.
 
It doesn't matter to me one way or the other. iPod was hidden inside a folder before and music and videos are still hidden inside a folder.
 
I don't care at all what they call it...but I really miss the old music app for iPod since the new one is so horrid - awful user interface and full of bugs. And the old music app was nothing special, the new one must really be awful to make me miss that thing.

Maybe not the same issue but similar...with the new version when you're in the list of tracks on an album, when it goes to the next song it switches from the list of songs to the album art. And when it does it every time, that's really annoying. But really that's the least of the problems.

Exactly, it's not like iPod is an outdated term, the iPod touch is immensely popular. This definitely isn't outrageous by any stretch, but it just seems needless, if you can't justify WHY something should be changed, then it probably shouldn't be changed...
 
I remember being annoyed that Music and Video were combined into iPod when I graduated from my iPod touch to my 3GS. I'm perfectly happy with the change.
 
Not really, I have an iPod 2G and i didn't realise until now that iPod was seperated into "Music" and "Videos" until I read about it yesterday. So, no. :eek:

They could have easily unified it into one "iPod" app, that would save us all an extra app in our homescreen.

I really wonder why Apple did this :rolleyes:
