Will you miss Touch ID?

Personally not for a while because I see no compelling reason to upgrade from my 2nd gen 12.9 iPad Pro. If there were hints of compelling features by way of discovered code in iOS 12 that is specific to new models then maybe but otherwise if its just going to be a form factor change I’ll sit the next generation out and wait until the next refresh. That’ll give Apple time to improve FaceID even further.

Nah I won’t miss TouchID at all. Everyone said the same thing when the iPhone X launched last year. The fears about it was all hyperbole. FaceID is fine. With the iPad and Pencil it makes more sense to get rid of TouchID than to keep it.
As for the comment about your face not being as available as your fingers. Well it’s a screen device, if you aren’t looking at the screen then you probably don’t need to use it.

I thought I would but the XS Max has changed it. Apple does need to have landscape Face ID figured out tho
Yes, I hate FaceID on my iphone X compared to TouchID. It doesn't open as fast as TouchID and there were many instances where I just ended up typing the the passcode to open. Given that ipad is much bigger than the phone, it's going to be more difficult to use FaceID. Another concern I have is, would FaceID even work when ipad is lying down flat on the desk (capturing the face from below)? I highly doubt it considering it doesn't work on iphone X. In that case, you have to physically carry the ipad to your face level or have to look down at the right angle for it to work, which is going to be too much hassle. I'd love to see the new ipad but if there's no option of TouchID, i'll probably end up removing the passcode completely...
Personally, not really. Have owned the X and currently own a XS Max, and really enjoying Face ID, especially since it’s gotten faster. I do like Touch ID, don’t get me wrong, and would be fine with either, however as I do like Face ID, I’m perfectly happy with the direction Apple has chosen.
No. Touch ID fails often for me, mostly because of wet fingers. In the short time with Xs the failure rate of Face ID has been zero. Home button, Touch ID and earphone jacks will not be missed.
FaceID is much faster than TouchID. You don’t have to wait for the unlock symbol. Just swipe up and go. You can also teach it certain angles and differences of your face. For instance if it prompted you for a password. Swipe up again and it will learn its mistake. If you punch in your passcode it won’t.
That’s how I feel about my iPad Air 2. Sadly I really wish I could use the pencil but no such luck. I’m trying to hold off for another year or two though.

i press the home button and it reads my fingerprint while i press it and instantly unlocks the device.
As cool and (sometimes) convenient Face-ID is, it's still not as good as Touch-ID 2.0. Even the "faster" Face-ID on the XS/Max is still not as quick as Touch-ID 2.0.
Touch-ID 2.0 on the 2017 iPad Pros is super fast and supports any orientation that you use it in. Face-ID on phones seem like a good fit because they're easier to handle and you can easily bring the phone to your face to have it at the right angle to unlock, but on tablets it's a different story. Tablets are heavier, bigger than phones, and are used differently than phones. They have a different usage scenario that doesn't favour Face-ID unlocking.
I am still very curious to see how the new Pros with Face-ID turn out, but I still have my doubts with Face-ID on a tablet and how well it'll work.
I was commenting on another user who was waiting for FaceID to show the unlock before swiping up. Apparently I should apologize for you having reading comprehension and crictical thinking issues, because I wasn’t talking about TouchID unlocking. All jokes aside, regardless of whether it's a Touch ID or Face ID, you need to put your finger on the device to even use those features. With faceID, there's an additional step of having to look at the screen. So in that sense, fingers would definitely be more available when you're talking about using an ipad
How many faces Face ID can support? iPhones often have a single user, but iPads can be family devices. Will searching against multiple faces slow it down? If it only allows one face, then Touch ID really will be missed.
I will miss Touch ID anyway as I often tap the home button for things such as checking for alerts, or even just the time. I regularly do that while not bothering to lift it up, so I am at a bad angle for Face ID.

lol True but if you are driving you don't want to put an iPad in your face. I've seen people type on a keyboard without fingers. I just don't like picking up my device and putting it to my face to try to unlock it. It would be best if we had both options available.
