Always 48mp ProRAW.
I exclusively use the ProCamera app which is by far the best app for someone with decades of «proper» camera experience IMHO. It also have a nice image browser, and a raw converter/editor.
My workflow.
- Shoot.
- Allow save to ProCameras lightbox folder (no auto upload to iCloud or similar). I do the initial sorting and deleting here as well.
- Open RAW in ProCamera RAW converter. If just a quick pic, save directly to jpg, then export file to camera roll. Delete original raw. The cloud grabs it for backup.
If edit, export to tif, open in Snapseed. Export jpg from Snapseed, back to ProCamera, export raw to camera roll, delete from ProCamera. Cloud grabs it for backup.
- Airdrop raws and jpgs to the Macbook. It then again backups locally to a NAS. Alas, I maintain several backups of my photography, regardless if its by mobile or «proper» camera.
- I use Google Photos app and cloud, not iCloud, meaning if I delete a file locally by any other app than Google Photos, that change will not be reflected in the cloud. So I eventually delete local raws knowing the originals are safe in the cloud, thus freeing up loads of space.
This works for me, but I’m fine spending time with my images and having multiple steps as I’ve been a photog since the days of film.
