What is the best concrete feature improvement over Vista that you early-adopters/beta-testers have run across? For me, the switch from XP to Vista brought with it a smoother UI, but not much else. What's better about 7?

So far for me it's the overall "first and finish", and since they are still in beta the UI is still being refined.

Overall everything runs faster than in Vista on my MacBook Pro and also I do like the new Explorer UI. In fact, Explorer is now better than the latest version of finder IMHO.

The best way to install Windows 7 is as an upgrade from Vista on a separate partition. Uninstall the realtek drivers supplied by Apple and just use the "sound" panel.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 build 7000 in boot camp and had no need to install audio drivers. They worked out of the box.

I have Windows 7 installed on Boot Camp- the main reason is so I can play games and use Office 2007. Hate to say it but I'm quite impressed so far.

I think my MacBook Pro runs Windows better than PCs do! It's faster, more stable and battery life is longer than under Vista. Only thing I had to do was download Realtek HD Audio Codec drivers to make sound work.

Looking forward to Snow Leopard though, worried I might start getting addicted to Windows 7's snazzy new Superbar!

The only good thing about Snow Leopard is that it will be faster... other than that it will look exactly the same and Finder will still be meh...

Installed Windows 7 Beta1 on Alu Macbook 2.4. I am extremely impressed at how stable and solid this build feels. Installed bootcamp drivers of leopard disk and installed VMware Fusion drivers. It just works! That is surprising from Microsoft.

Although I don't have 7 installed on any of my Macs, I do have it installed on a PC, and even though the specs aren't awesome, the performance is great and IMO so far it is the fastest and most responsive OS I have ever used. Everything just feels right about this release, and I am really looking forward to the final version to be released, perhaps the only time I have been excited about a new release of Windows...

This article does a good job covering all the new tweaks and features in 7:

Just installed on a 2.2Ghz MacBook w/4GB RAM and 250GB 5400RPM HD. Very impressed. I had XP installed on this same setup a while ago but I think this runs even better.

My Windows index score is 3.5.

PS- Running 7 right now.

I upgraded my Bootcamp image to Windows 7 Ultimate from Windows Vista Ultimate - and so far, so good -

- I haven't had any driver problems, but am not using BT for anything. Audio upgraded just fine for me.
- All my apps are working
- Windows 7 Graphics are working great. I'm using aero, and the performance monitor isn't pegging each time I move a window (as it did with Vista)
- I like how it outlines "drop zone" when you move windows around...
- I was able to start up my Bootcamp image in Fusion - no issues noted, although it wasn't as smooth as an XP VM

I'll jump on the bandwagon. Hands down better than Vista. Microsoft might really be in for a problem if NOBODY buys Vista now that Windows 7 is around the corner. If I hadn't bought Vista yet, I'd say wait for this and screw Vista.

FYI - I'm running a late 2006 Merom MBP and my Windows Experience Index is 4.5 (held back by graphics).

I'm also running an image of Windows 7 Beta 1 on VMWare Fusion on my Mac Pro -

It's pretty darned fast. Much easier to work with than Vista in a VM. I tried to run the Experience Index on the VM, but it craps out each time. Not sure why that is, but that's the only issue I had.

If Microsoft didn't actually plant those releases on the web, I'll bet their happy with the result anyway. Now if they can just get rid of the bloat in office.

From what i have heard, the guy who is usually in charge of office development is in charge of windows 7 development. So i found this a bit ironic. I've not used MS office in years so idk what it handles like, but maybe switching the chiefs around will make it better for everything in MS-Land. Win7 is shaping up to be pretty amazing.

It's Steven Sinofsky who was in charge of Office 2007 and is now in charge of Windows 7. In addition to Apple blogs, I keep an eye on Windows stuff & to see what they are saying about Apple at:

Some good Windows 7 coverage there.

I'm having a pretty strange problem. Last night I shut the lid to put it to sleep in Windows. The sleep light came on right away and I went to sleep. This morning I get up and see that the sleep light is off. I turn it on and it does a cold boot. Anyone else getting this?

I am having no problems on my Alu. MacBook. It's stable, and it's running great. Big improvement from Vista.

Can anyone tell me how to screenshot?
