Might be a bit of a thick question, but can anyone tell me how to get the file onto a DVD having downloaded the .iso file?

I'm using Toast, and just need to know what sort of file it needs to be burned as in order to get the computer to pick it up as an installation disc.

Cheers.

Just burn the ISO to DVD and you are done. You can do that with Toast or even with Disk Utility.

For lack of a better comparison, its much like a windows version of Snow Leopard

This is a good thing. By now, there arent really many features people want out of their OS except speed, so i think its great that both big OS developers are working toward a leaner system. I've not tried 10.6 yet, but if its anything like the jump from vista to win7 i will be upgrading right away.

I tried that mate and in Boot Camp it just says "The installer disc couldn't be found"

If I open the disc it's just a picture of the .iso file, is that right?

Can you try burning it with Disk Utility? When you open Disk Utility click on 'Burn" and select the .iso and burn it to a DVD.

finally installed windows 7!!

i had an iso my friend (msdn subscriber) gave me.. as i just couldn't get the download link today at all...
saved the iso to my desktop for faster install...

after about an hour now windows 7 is up and running on my alu macbook via vmware fusion 2

the mistake i was making was using the "easy install" option in vmware as it kept crapping out on the serial number i had provided (all zero's) for some reason..

using the manual setup went a lot smoother :) and vmware tools installed fine and i have internet and sound and didn't have to do anything else at all to be honest..
even the 2 tap right click on the glasspad works :)

just installed firefox 3 ;) haha... (isn't that what everyone does on a fresh windows install?)
actual install took about 15-20 mins.. fusion crashed out once at the first reboot..

windows 7 crashed when i clicked on "solitaire" (i think someone else had issues with minesweeper!)

i haven't really used vista at all.. just comin from xp.. and it does seem a big step forward in terms of UI and GUI..

i'll be testing it a bit more though..

but i can say this.. it's no OS X!!!

That would be me. Seems to happen ONLY in Fusion. Minesweeper worked fine when I ran it in with Win7 native.

DX11 is backwards compatible. Meaning that you can play DX10 or earlier games no problem. Since there are no DX11 games out yet (or GPUs for that matter), you won't be running DX11 itself though.

Fortunately, win 7 seems to detect all the Vista versions of the drivers (since they're using the same driver model anyways) so no real issues yet on my desktop PC.

I am absolutely lovin the small physical and virtual footprint of this OS though - and it's already feeling way faster than XP was (and certainly Vista). Looks like MS is finally going in the right direction. I'm very impressed with the beta

How did you all get your product keys?

I got to the "Error - The site is currently experiencing technical difficulties." page, and then I downloaded via another link on another website.

Just wondering y'know...

More of the same.

Web slices ..... Web Clips
New Taskbar .... THE DOCK
The new 'shake' and clear desktop functions .... expose.

I also didn't know that Microsoft had Windows Gurus. Why couldn't they just call them experts... no it had to share some similarity with Genius.

iLife 09 makes me laugh at Windows Live Essentials.

And thats my fanboy rant. Not the first, and certainly not the last. ;)

The only thing here that makes sense is the Web Clips/Slices. Tell me, what functionality did the new taskbar take from the dock? Does the new takbar suck at managing multiple windows of one app? No. Ergo, its not a copy of the dock. It also has no magnification, the system tray hold all the info which the dock hasnt seen since 10.2(?), it doesnt expand/contract based on the number of icons present.
New taskbar!= dock.

I can shake a window all day long on OSX and nothing happens. Btw, ever hit Winkey+D on windows? It clears the desktop. Then apple gives us expose and it has a desktop function too. It seems like apple doesnt invent every computer idea ever.... MS did implement something that remembers where your windows were so you can put them back when you are done on the desktop, but thats really about it. I have yet to find a way to make Expose clear all but my current window.... Seems like thats something else MS didnt take from Apple.

Seriously guys, Apple didnt invent everything that exists on modern computers. Hate MS all you want, but they contribute to the evolution of OS's just as much as everyone else.

I meant they've animated the jump to desktop part. Windows dissapear except for shadows. Same as how apple animated them flying to edges of screen.
The new taskbar is like the dock as now it just has icons of your applications. Applications you use all the time you can just drag straight into it. If you left click on an application in the apple dock you get all the current open windows. You can choose which ever you like. Expose also lets you easily jump between open windows of ONE application as well as ALL.

And for hating microsoft, I don't. Office is an awesome app, although i now prefer pages and keynote. But excel is still top dog. I just don't like how microsoft OS's seem to be playing catch up. With billions of dollars at their disposal, they should be at the forefront of innovation.
I personally don't like the windows file system (too messy) and the vista/7 GUI... again its too messy, should be simpler and more elegant. I don't cling to XP though, I'm running Vista on my home PC at the moment.
