This same issue happens with XP Pro SP2

I have had this exact same issue trying to load XP Pro on a new iMac (27"). Have not yet tried the proposed fix but based on the info am fairly certain it will work.

I did hook up a second monitor and that one works fine so when I get back to it tonight I'll try to delete the video driver and go from there.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to finding a fix here. Hard to troubleshoot the problem with a black screen so the tips have helped thus far.

I ran into a similar problem today (27" i5). I used Bootcamp to make the Windows 7 partition within OS X like normal, and then ran through the setup like normal. The computer rebooted and came back up to the last step during setup. The screen went black shortly afterward. The computer was still going though, so I let the install complete until it rebooted the computer yet another time and actually booted to Windows instead of the setup. I got the black screen again so I followed the steps in this article, deleting the ATIKMDAG.SYS file from command prompt:
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2009/10/26/how-to-install-windows-7-onto-the-new-27in-imac/

Rebooted, the display came up but the resolution was off. Inserted my OS X disc and let it install the drivers from Bootcamp and rebooted, resolution was back to normal.

The only problem I still have is it's not recognizing my Magic Mouse. I didn't look into it much outside of trying to pair the device, but will take a stab at it tomorrow morning.

Black screen hang on install, new imac27" i7 Windows7 64bit

Hi all, I have the brand new iMac 27" with the ATI card in it.

I tried installing Windows 7 Professional x64.

I ran into the black screen problem also.

First I tried deleting the ATIKMDAG.SYS file as recommended.

I know see the screen, but Windows puts up a dialog a few seconds later: An unexpected error has occurred. Windows 7 setup cannot continue. Click ok to reboot and restart Windows 7 setup.

I then put the ATI driver back into the \windows\system32\drivers folder and tried the plug in a second monitor suggestion. That also worked to the extent that I got to see video, but the same error dialog pops on screen and hosed me from completing the install.

Ack! Any help!?

thanks,

I had a hell of a time in XP64 couldnt get things right so I purchased the full version of windows7 64 download, downloaded the iso and burned that on my PC, then I ran into this **** ! Brand new imac 27 8gig memory and I need 64 bit

I got the same black screen hang
Did the repair off the system install disk Command prompt
DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ati*.sys
This worked for me and it install all the boot camp drivers after I installed the apple disk ! Everything is there ! even auto installed my network printer !
THANKS!!!!!! THANKS!!!! I wasted 3 hours on this

I didnt check the magic mouse cause I hate it. Logitech performance MX auto loaded and is a great mouse

solution, if the command doesnt work:

download ntfs-3g (free) and delete via osX the ATIKMDAG found in windows/system32/drivers ..

restart and apply then mobility ati driver.

I'm on a 2 week old 27" core i7 w/ ATI 4850. I am having this same problem. Anyone come across a solution to this?

OK... I'm trying to find that ATIKMDAG.SYS in system32/drivers and it does not exist. I even downloaded that ntfs-3g thing and it's just not there.
What do I do? THis black screen thing is getting seriously old.

I can get past the black screen....

This may be about 11 months late, but I am still having this problem and cannot find any solutions.

Has either MrVengeance81, robbr2084 or anyone else found any fixes?

The unexpected error states that restarting will solve the problem but it's just end endless cycle of failure.

Also, I once had 32bit Windows 7 installed on this 27" iMac. It is the 64bit giving me trouble.

I would be very grateful to anyone who could be of any help.

I installed Paralells Desktop 6 and installed Win 7 64-bit without any problems. I just tweaked some of the settings in Paralells to get the soundcard, my wi-fi printer, etc working. It is pretty cool has this all works. I loaded my some of my windows programs and they work fine too.
