You're correct if you mean the DVD EFI option does not work correctly.
However, the DVD also has a BIOS option. After you've put the DVD in
and pressed the power button be sure to hold down the Option key, not
the C key. People who have tried the latter have had issues.
And yes, Apple should update their EFI firmware to support Vista SP1 EFI.
Apple have somewhat crippled their EFI firmware, and it's becoming an
irritation.
What you are not understanding is that it does not matter if you hold down the option key or the C key, the result is the same. On the pre 2008 Macs, booting from the Vista64 SP1 DVD results in frozen keyboard & mouse and a screen asking to "Select CD-ROM boot option" 1. or 2. with no descriptors as to what each option is. You cannot choose either because there is no input available. You cannot proceed beyond this point.
The pre 2008 Mac EFI firmware is just not compatible with the Vista64 SP1 DVD.
Please note that I did install the Vista64 SP1 DVD on my early 2008 MacBook Pro without incident.
