I admit I haven't tried Windows Phone yet, but I have watched a ton of demo videos. I didn't realize that the latest calendar event is shown on the lock screen. That's definitely useful.

And there we have proof that you are doing pointless bashing with out really understanding the OS.

You have not even tried it at all. All you go on is demo videos and say it sucks.
I would say you could download the SDK and kind of get an idea about it but I am willing to bet you do not have a windows power computer.

The problem is the arrangement of tiles are random. Notification Center in iOS/Android is sorted historically which is a more important way of consuming that kind of data. like I said, live tiles are a pretty but less functional way of getting notified.
The arrangement of the tiles are not random. They can be arranged on what's most important to you, the user. I have my homescreen like so:

Always visible without scrolling:

Calendar (long tile)
People, Pinned Contact
IE, Messaging
Weather, Phone Dialer

And then the order of importance and frequency goes down the list.

Can the Calendar tile tie in to Google?

Yes. I have mine linked to Google, Facebook, Live, and my work Outlook with Exchange. When you add a calendar event, the phone allows you to choose the available accounts (except for social networks). In my case, I can choose Live, Outlook, or Google.

Changes on the phone are synced automatically to your respective accounts. Changes that you make from the web are also automatically synced to your phone.

I have used iOS, Android and Windows based phones. I have to say that I would rather use a Windows Phone over Android any day. The tiles layout is a solid design in my experience. I usually don't care about Microsoft software that much, but I think the phone design is easy, convenient and accessible for most users. I still prefer my iPhone simply because it is aesthetically more preferable to me. I also have no qualms with iOS as it stands. The tiles are a solid idea though, and if I ever had to for work or something- I wouldn't mind having to use one at all.
