I have a 1520. Solid phone, great camera, great hardware. Software is a letdown. I think if you are interested in WP you should already know about the sad software support. Thing is, literally every developer is like that - including Microsoft itself. OneNote, for example, got updated with long-awaited features on iOS and Android. Windows Phone? Nope.

Black just came out with the 1520 late last year and 8.1 will officially be released with new features in about a month (I have it now on my 1520 and love it).

There have been a few intermediary releases in between...so...wtf are you talking about?

Btw...no updates because none are needed to fix any bugs is a GOOD thing.

I thought that was improving with the most recent update and going forward?

I am running 8.1 on my 1520. The OS is great. But OneNote did not get updated. It's still inferior compared to iOS and Android apps. Also there's the RDP app - was out for half a year on iOS and Android before coming to Windows Phone - and even then only to 8.1 preview users. Then there's on{x} from Microsoft - it's Android exclusive.

GDR1-3? These updates didn't add anything other than fixing what Microsoft broke going from WP7 to WP8, and adding developer APIs for Nokia to use.

Updates are supposed to also bring new features. It's not a good thing that WP does not get THIS kind of updates.

Nadalla has promised faster updates and bug fixes and so far he has lived up to all of his promises. In fact, there have been two updates to 8.1 already and it isn't even out of beta!

No... Just no!
Could barley stand my windows PC after my MBP. Still use it occasionally, but much prefer IOS or Andorid for phones.

I'm liking the new DNA featured in the Lumia Icon/930 as well.
Same here. I'm hoping for a 1520 successor in the same style, and that they stick to 6". That would be a serious competitor vs. iPhone 6/Note 4 for me.

I'd love to see a successor to that phone, but never bought the 1520 due to it's IMO awful appearance and feel. The corners are too sharp, they can be used as a weapon and make it appear much larger than it is. I hate that shiny finish as well.

I'd also love to see an icon successor which was thinner and on AT&T, or a 1020 without the humungous bezels.

Yeah, those corners were a bit unfortunate... Icon style + slimmer would make it a pretty ace phone. I think 6" would be my sweet spot for screen size, in a really slim package that would be one hell of a smartphone.

I'm not sure what is going on with Nokia, but I think they have AWFUL designs. The phones are great, cameras are incredible, but the physical designs of the phones I just don't understand. It's a testament to how bad their designs are that I wish Samsung would make more windows phones, now that's bad lol.

I just got a Lumia 521 because my family switched from Verizon to T-mobile, and we're on a $100 family plan where all four of us get data so I figured I might as well get a smartphone since we're paying for data anyway. I kind of wanted to wait to see what Apple comes out with before making a bigger investment and the Lumia 521 is only $69 from Amazon.

This is my first Windows Phone let alone smartphone. However, I'm used to using an iPod touch all the time, so the interface is still jarring to me.

It's OK so far. I'm sure it'll take a while to get used to. One thing that seems to be missing is a good Maps application. It comes with three "HERE" apps, HERE Drive, Maps, and Transit. I find the interfaces a bit confusing, as well as the fact that there are three separate apps.

Is there a "best" Maps app for Windows Phone? I think it's odd Microsoft doesn't make its own since it's had maps with Bing for so long now.

I put cases on all of mine, so don't really care. I've never been form over function, unless that form somehow interrupts function.
Besides, I like the unique look of some Lumia's, like the 1020.

I really hope Microsoft does away with these stupid exclusivity deals with US carriers. It is moronic.

Agreed, They only hurt the platform not help it.

I read somewhere that some of the newer Nokias coming out later this summer will be available on the major carriers and not part of any exclusive - I hope that's true
