When I set up my new Air (should it ever arrive) can you please provide the steps for the copy of the VMware image?

I.E. how do I allocate the image (disk) if it is not a fresh install? What exactly gets copied? Do I just use time machine? I do not want to copy all of my MBP content, I only want to bring over my VM portion as it will take me hours to set up from scratch.

Thanks so much for your advice/assistance.

Actually - it was pretty easy for me. I just used the Migration utility on my MacBook Pro and migrated everything (including Fusion and the XP VM) to the Air. Now the Air is pretty much a clone of the MBP. Also, I played around with turning on file sharing on the MBP and coping the XP VM (it is just one file apparently) to the Air. From the Air, I then opened Fusion and told it to open the new VM - no problem at all.

VMWare Fusion Running slow...

Hi

I have been using Fusion with Windows XP for over a year now and mostly, very happy. However, many months ago it started to slow down significantly and it was useless to do anything in windows making work very hard as I do need it occasionly. The only solution at the time was to wipe the mac clean and do a fresh install. Also added an extra 2gb of ram to it (to make 4gb) to avoid the problem again.

So i set it up again (on my macbook pro 2.4ghz core 2 duo with 4gb ram) to have 3gb ram dedicated to windows in fusion. It ran like an absolute dream.

Now, it has happened again, to click anywhere will take a good 10-15 seconds to respond. Programs will take up to 10 minutes to load etc.

As far as fusion opening, still fast, it loads okay until i try to click into the screen to use it when it just stops responding.

Help needed, dont want to wipe it again!

Vmware 2 vs Parallels 4 on MBA

I've used Parallels on a variety of MACs over the past few years. ITs alway been fast and stable (but had quirks with network connections and printing). Its support is abysmal so having few problems has been a good thing.

A few months ago I got a Macbook Air and Parallels 3 performed much better than I expected. Performance was very good although it taxed RAM.

When Parallels 4 came out I tried it. Converting the VM was smooth and easy. Boot and run speed was noticeably faster. Disk Compressor was phenomenally faster and more effective. It uses quite a bit more memory though. With some tweaking I got RAM under control but at the expense of reducing my VM memory allocation about 128k.

So I tried the latest version of VMWare Fusion 2. It installed easily, created a VM easily, and I liked the interface and simplicity. Unfortunately it ran XP painfully slow while using significantly more CPU, Memory, and HD resources. It was simply unacceptable on my MBA (revA) after being used to Parallels.

Just one person's experience but even optimizing Fusions 2 performance it was noticeably slower and more resource intensive than both Parallels 3 and 4.
