It’s beeeaautiful today. I poured a gin and tonic and laying on the loveseat on the deck reading magazines, books, and enjoying the green open space.

Oh, and celebrating Lulu’s birthday, she’s four today.

Had a rather interesting mix this weekend and it was quite good!

Smog City Brewing - Sabre-Toothed Squirrel Amber/Red ale with a half a shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey Caskmates IPA edition. It was tasty. It is just the topping, not even a quarter of a shot. But those two flavors mixed together was something else. Not an every time I go type drink, but it was a good mix up. Our bartender suggested it to us as there is a gentleman who orders this every time he comes in.

Also went to Beachwood BBQ and Brewery this weekend and had two really good beers:

"Vanilla Fudge" - Imperial Chocolate Vanilla Stout - Outstanding.
"Mocha Machine" - Imperial Chocolate Coffee Porter - Again outstanding.

Sampled the following:
"Hoppler Effect" - Double IPA - Very good.
"Sadie" - Dark ale - Good.

They were out of the "System of a Stout" - Armenian Imperial Coffee Stout, since I really wanted to try that one. Maybe next time.

Also tried some wines last week, but I couldn't tell you what they were, would have to go back and look over my notes. They were wines located/from the southern hemisphere of the world.

The stouts sound absolutely amazing.
[doublepost=1532978386][/doublepost]Amarillo - from the Brouwerij De Molen, described as an "Imperial IPA - ish."

They were really good and again, I wish they had the Armenian Coffee stout as I really wanted to try that one. Was bummed they ran out and since it was close to closing I wasn't going to push them to bring out a new tap. I go to the place quite often so I am sure it will be had in the near/distant future!

Well, any stout with coffee, chocolate or vanilla will always meet with my approval.

And, the Armenian stout sounds amazing.

Is that a marketing ploy, or does the beer genuinely have a - or any - link - to Armenia?

I've been to Armenia, and I can say that their cognac is superlative (it was the best that was available in the old USSR); Georgia also has good cognac, and some extremely good wine.

But, I must admit that I had never come across Armenian beer.

I am currently drinking Vuur & Vlam, a beverage Brouwerij De Molen describe as "India Pale Ale - ish".

This particular one is made with Armenian coffee, not so much a beer from Armenia. I believe I have one, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I will post a picture of it when I finally do have it. I believe it is an Armenian Lager. I think. Will have to double check.

Armenian coffee?

Gosh.

That is something I have never come across - nor ever even heard of. Fascinating.

Turkish coffee, yes, Russian tea, yes, but Armenian coffee, no.

Well, do enlighten me if you learn more.

I don’t have a good handle on this say Armenian versus say French roast. It has all to do with either the way the beans are roasted, or the way the beverage is prepared, not where the beans are grown, correct?

Edit: I’ll correct myself and say there are many cases where beans are named based on where they come from, so there are several naming conventions, some based on preparation , some based on origination of the bean, and some based on preparation of the beverage. So I’ll ask what distinguishes Russian Coffee from Armenian Coffee, or in some cases, say besides strength of the brew, is it a marketing ploy? :)

I am by no means a coffee expert so I couldn't answer that question with full confidence, but I believe you are correct. I am just not hundred percent sure.

I imagine it refers to a method of preparation rather than the origin of the beans. Or it could just be marketing.

A beer or two from Brouwerij De Molen, will feature this evening; "Amarillo" described as an "Imperial IPA - ish."

And starting with Vuur & Vlaam, described by Brouwerij De Molen as an India Pale Ale - ish.
[doublepost=1533150490][/doublepost]And earlier, in a city centre pub, the building dates from the late 17th century, - and it features lovely wooden panelling from the early 18th century, - I enjoyed two small red ales.
