And apple just made the phone thicker... The 7 plus was 7.3 mm thick where the iPhone 8 Plus is 7.5 mm thick. That pretty much accounts for any additional thickness from the glass back and the addition of a Qi charger. I'm certain the internal volume is the same.

No, the 0.2mm difference isn't enough.

Let's think about the numbers. The difference is 0.2mm. The thinnest tempered glass protectors for the iPhone display are 0.2mm. The rear glass chassis of the iPhone 8 is way thicker than a tempered glass protector.

Unlike iPhone 7 and older models, which has a monolithic metal chassis, the iPhone 8 has a metal back + glued rear glass. The two materials result in a thicker overall device.

3D touch is accomplished with the addition of a thin film behind the screen. i don't believe it ads anything measurable to the thickness of the phone or the space used internally.

What?? No.

3D Touch adds considerable thickness. Below is a tear down of the iPhone X display. The dark metal plate and 3D Touch module are required.

Do you have a soutane for that?

Rewa did measurements a while ago on 6 vs. 6s. You'll have to trust me.

Apple should start dumping useful features for extended Pokémon GO sessions-is that not the essential idea here? Those types of games really hammer the battery-it’s to be expected. As others have stated, get an external battery and rock on.

...and a fraction of a millimeter is considered a significant amount of added thickness? Must be a very slow news day.

I have a battery pack but I have two phones, its uncomfortable to go walking with so many things in pocket. Can get 4ish hours out of both plus phones with Pokemon Go but I thought we might get better battery after so many years :) I prefer to go walking for more than 4 hours and without the load of a battery pack. In fairness iPhones are better than all my local friends Androinds even with their One Plus 4000+ mAh batterys.... I just hooped Iphone would improve more :)... I also dont like cases on hpones so cannot use a battery charge case :S

I'm not a fan of carrying extra stuff around either, so that's why the wireless charging appeals to me. It's so convenient, and I prefer the charging stands rather than pads, because the stand keeps my iPhone at an angle that makes it possible to interact with it while it's charging. Of course since it's wireless I can easily pick up the phone to interact with it, and then plop it back down on the charger. Granted, I used to keep a USB to lightning cable plugged in at my desk so I could charge my iPhone 6. It wasn't like it was hard to do, but since it was slightly cumbersome I was much more likely to not do it. The wireless thing is just so easy that it quickly baecame a habit to just put my iPhone on the charger when I'm at my desk.

It’s always funny when somebody that doesn’t use a feature complains about the feature and wants it removed from future devices. It’s as silly as complaining about faceid and the notch.

And then to systematically attack each and every aspect of the phone when the first theory didn't work the way they thought it would. And this WHOLE problem can be resolved with a $29 battery case that would deliver 300% more juice... where removing any of the alleged culprits from the phone would only yield maybe 2-3% more battery life...

but hey, I'll just go and demand everyone else be inconvenienced.

Hmm comprehension issues? I asked for wireless charging to be optional not removed. Everyone who wanted it could still have it.

I also do not use cases for the phones.

Never asked for removal - just the option. I buy Audi and take various options often - I would like similar for iPhone - would pay premium for more battery in a singular device
[doublepost=1522954705][/doublepost]I don’t do android so I must ask Apple - never demanded anything

Your argument is still nonsense. Wireless charging doesn’t take up any meaningful amount of space. It’s a paper thin coil. It should be in every device now so those that know the value of wireless charging can use it.

There is an option. Just don't use it. Apple isn't going to make two separate models just to remove a feature you don't like.

This is the problem with discussion boards. My original request still stands and what you have said here was already explained very well to me later in the thread along with some other interesting things such as tap tic. I then retracted my OP simply because someone explained just that to me!

Please read entire thread before bothering to reply with accusations when the OP actually already agreed with what you said based on a good explanation later in the thread.

So I believe you have some misconception that the Qi charger inside the iPhone is taking up some massive amount of space. In fact the Qi Charger is nearly paper thin... As iFix it described it...

I can't tell you exactly how much potential mAh could be gained by using this space for extended battery, but I am pretty sure it's less capacity than that found inside an Apple Watch (205mAh.) Where an iPhone 8 Plus has 2,675mAh... This additional space couldn't be more than an additional 50mAh... Assuming Apple could/would even take advantage of that space as creating a cell to fit that space would be needlessly expensive for little gain

Remember these Terraced batteries were a big deal in 2015 When they were introduced with the MacBook Pro... and even then, these layers are not thin enough to take advantage of a space no thicker than black electrical tape...

Bottom line: Removing the Qi Charger wouldn't get you any more Pokemon Go time. Those of us who DO appreciate wireless charging don't have to sacrifice anything to make you happy.
its the glass and the surrounding attachment mechanism that takes up space...vs a unibody shell.

No, the thickness of the 8 / Plus was increased over the 7 / plus and the battery of the 8 plus is 2691 mac vs the 7 Plus at 2675.A meager increase of 16 may but an increase none the less. The internal volume of the 8 / Plus should not have been impacted by the glass back.

I hope we can have iphones with the option of NO wireless charging. I dont want or use it. I would prefer if they made a stronger phone and used the space for a bigger battery. Ever since 6 Plus the battery has gotten smaller every year. Apple flout its because iOS & new hardware is more effecient now. Well great, just imagine how much better the battery life in 8Plus would be with same since or bigger battery than 6 Plus

Also iphone Plus models eat iphone X for breakfast in battery - I suppose Apple could not put a bigger battery in Iphone 8 as it would be too much better than the X

I have iPhone 8 Plus and a 4 year old 6 plus. Use both for Pokemon Go. Checked battery yesterday and iphone 8 plus is still at 100% capacity and the 6 Plus is at 91% which is quite surprising as I have battered with with Pokemon Go which is a battery eater over a 2 year period.

This morning took both phones off charge, both at 100%. Took a 40 minute trip into work. Both phones were at 92% remaining. I noticed the 6 Plus was as good if not better than my 6s plus is Pokemon Go.

I wish wireless stupid charging could be taken out of 8 Plus and give me back the 6 Plus battery size.

iphone 6 Plus original battery size: 2915 mAh
iphone 8 Plus original battery size: 2691 mAh

LOL!

Not going to happen!

I love my wireless charging on my X and feel like Apple is going in the right direction.

You can always open the phone and take it out yourself. That’s the only way it’s goimg to happen. A phone isn’t a car after all.
