IIRC, Apple sold an external keyboard for the Newton...which would imply the same about the handwriting recognition technology that it used. I don't see any reason why they eventually wouldn't provide support for it...especially since they already make a bluetooth keyboard...

It shows a hacker who was able to get some rudimentary data input into the iPhone using a usb keyboard. Obviously it's not a good solution right now since it wouldn't work with most apps. But it shows it can be done.
It's sort of similar to this gamepad that is used, though I think it only works with jailbroken apps.
Hopefully apple gets its act together and give us something that works properly.
hello, the Apple you're talking about is not the same since 1997.
I have a bad feeling about iphone: is too limited by design, but the appaerence of the user interface makes you think that have potential.
The lack of bluetooth data transfer intrigues me - Apple gains royalities over any acessory that have a made for iphone or ipod logo. An operational bt stack would provide a wider market of acessories for iphone, satisfiyng booth the company and users.
But as the time passes, its obvious that iphone will never get an operational bluetooth stack - the base software as remained the same since the first iteration of iphone. Also they are continuosly pursuing the media that their iphone user base got a rank in best satisfaction, so there's no need to change.
Great, this is a start. Hope Apple can provide such keyboard in the future.
No, I think Apple understands that you can't type quickly on any mini-keyboard... there is always a need for one of those bluetooth keyboards that allow you to have the full size keyboard experience.
I want to be able to type long notes very quickly during meetings without having to unfold a big notebook computer.
Man, you would think Apple (and 3rd party developers) would reveal their plans.
In the mean time, I am forced to check into other options.
Offering a keyboard would imply that the existing touch keyboard is less than stellar. Not going to happen on Stevie's watch.
