I have a 6+ and wish I had not gone from iOS 10 to 11. While the features within iOS 11 are very nice imo... the performance hit I have taken is really, really, really bad. A couple of games (namely, Sim City: Build It) which was always super fluid and fast on iOS 10 is now virtually unplayable. I understand that certain things could be a little tougher, but games that ran just fine on this hardware on iOS 9 and 10 being completely unplayable on 11? This doesn't seem right.

Granted, I'm planning on updating to the X next month which will make this a moot point, but it is still very disappointing for now.

You could try a fresh install via iTunes. I did that with my 6s and all is good with iOS 11.

Did that as well, no joy. iOS11.1 PB2 seems to work awesome for me, 11 through 11.0.3 works like a turd so I'm hoping that GM of 11.1 doesn't carry over the issues I'm having on 11.0.3

AGREED. This is what I've come to expect from Apple since Jobs death: everything they release seems to be a total disaster that should have never made it to market. Makes you wonder if they are thoroughly testing anything anymore or if part of their rollout scheme is now to roll things out not fully tested and have irate Apple users be their testing division so they hear from users how horrible their products have become. My iPhone6 is a total MESS since DOWNgrading to iOS11. Apple needs to fix ALL the issues with this OS. I've stopped listing everything on my phone that's screwing up, the list is THAT big.

So you’re angry that you have a 4 year old device that has some performance issues on a X.0 build. I mean you could be on Android where you never get an update. Over the last four years you have gotten at least 20 updates.

You join today and all three of your posts are bashing Apple. You are going to have a rough time here.

It’s only a 3-year old device and shouldn’t run so poorly on 11.

It’s the 4th OS version and only has 1GB of RAM. Common sense says it’s gonna run poorly.

It's funny you say that because at the time, everyone around here was like "1 GB of RAM is PLENTY!! Apple's memory management is flawless so it doesn't need more..."

Then a year or two later, everyone's like "of course it runs like garbage -- it only has 1 GB of RAM".

Quite a few people were saying that it was time to move to more than GB by that time. That said, it was still fine at that time and even for some time after that. It's just showing its age after a number of years, which is a decently long time in the mobile world.

At the time iOS was also designed to run on 1GB devices.

Later in iOS 9+ there have been features added that require 2GB and the OS was designed with more RAM in mind.

Which is precisely why people said it should have more RAM. It's painfully obvious that it will be the first bottleneck crippling performance.

And that's not mentioning iOS's incredibly aggressive memory management that means things are constantly having to reload and rebuffer. Leave a video for 2 seconds? Have to rebuffer all of it. Want to go back a page in Safari? Have to reload it entirely. It eats data and battery and wastes time.

All for want of an extra gig or two of RAM.

What? My phone doesn't act that way - quite the contrary. Most (if not all) Android phones I've owned have had more aggressive memory management than IOS, even with twice the amount of RAM.

Has anyone else noticed that app updates are downloading very slowly?

My 10.5 is taking ages to download any app updates and including iOS ones. Yes, I am on the current 11.0.3. It’s almost like they’re paused but they’re not, just taking forever to download.

I have a 6+ too and iOS 11 is noticeably slower than iOS 10. I'm not even talking about gaming performance (I don't play games), but even the most basic interactions with the UI are slow. I don't expect outstanding performance on a 3 years old phone, but I can't understand why there's a lag here and there in the system that wasn't there before. I just tapped on the "show all tabs" button in Safari and it took 4 seconds to show all five (5!!) tabs I had opened. Every time I tap on the address field it takes 2-3 seconds until I can write something there. It takes a few seconds for the camera to activate. And there are more lags.

What the hell did they do to make the UI slower? It's like they have a piece of code which works just fine and every year they throw it away and rewrite it from scratch to work best only on the newer phones. And they call it an iOS upgrade.

I'm experiencing this too most of the time I use App Store, no matter if I'm on 4G or WiFi. Running speed tests on both networks shows full speed, yet the downloads are crippling slow for whatever reason.

Yup, same on my 8+ (11.0.3) and iPad 10.5 (also on 11.0.3)

So glad to have returned my 8+ last night and back on the 7+ with iOS 10 !!

iOS 11 is a mega FAIL in my book!! I an't upgrading my 7+ to 11 at all!!

If this were common sense, Apple should have cut off the 5s and 6 at 10.3.3. Yet they actively try to push 11 onto these devices through pop ups and emails that talk about how amazing it is.

The average person has no idea how much RAM is in their phone. They get the messages from Apple to update with no warnings about how their phones will become crippled.

Not good.

I'd have to agree. As I posted on another thread:

Did a clean install on Air 2, on 11.1 Beta 2 now. I still see lots of stuttering on opening and closing apps and opening from lock screen. Screen location sometimes locks up. Also, I get random Bluetooth disconnects with Bose QuietComfort 20 earphones. Disaster? No, but I find myself using my 8" Galaxy Tab S2 a lot more because it is smooth, fast, and without audio issues.
