When people say ‘period’ at the end of a sentence. Admittedly it’s a very rare phrase in my part of the World but makes me cringe when I hear it used.
Ditto, and “full stop.”When people say ‘period’ at the end of a sentence. Admittedly it’s a very rare phrase in my part of the World but makes me cringe when I hear it used.
Context matters. Could be MicroSoft, Tesla Model S, other? Probably should start a new thread for MS explanations.…"MS" for "Mac Studio".
I would consider "MS" for "Tesla Model S" equally inappropriate.Tesla Model S
Used all the time in Tesla fora, as is M3, MY, MX. My Tesla is a 2018 M3 RWD LR…so there!I would consider "MS" for "Tesla Model S" equally inappropriate.
Your Tesla is a BMW?My Tesla is a 2018 M3 RWD LR…so there!
Back during the Covid scare my country's government produced signs - and they were everywhere - saying "sign-in and stop the virus". There are only five words; why could they not get someone to proofread them?!When people incorrectly use "back up" instead of "backup" and vice versa.
No, obvious confusion. Hence the context clue ”Used…in the Tesla fora…”Your Tesla is a BMW?
"Voilà" pronounced "Wahlaa"
You might "enjoy" this."Voilà" pronounced "Wahlaa"
I know this is pretty late, but oh my lord, I loathe "haul" in that context, too!Just remembered another: "haul", meaning what gifts people got for a birthday/holiday or bought from a certain place/store.
"At this time." One of the singers I work with regularly says this, and I just hate it. As in, "I'd rather not have a percussionist at this time." It's just annoying to me.
She says that when talking (or texting) directly with the person as a way to say "no," which I have no problem with. It's just when she overuses it, especially just with me, that's when it's annoying. Also, she's said stuff like, "I want to work on [such and such tune] at this time," which is also annoying to me for some reason. So is it really the phrase itself or just the fact that he overuses it? Because I find that phase a lot less harsh than a hard "no."
The latest phrase that has me triggered is for many reasons is, "I'm vegan."
1. It's none of my business
2. I don't care🥱
3. That phrase always come out of left field, always non sequitur.😫
4. I like bacon🤗
5. The person who says that is invariably an obnoxious twit🤨
Perhaps I need to add "fora" to the list!Used all the time in Tesla fora
Perhaps I need to add "fora" to the list!
The OED (sorry; no Cambridge handy!) says that the correct plural for a discussion website is "forums". While "fora" is a word, it refers to an area for conducting "judicial and other business", and while some foum members like to judge what Apple and Tesla are doing, I don't think that's what the Romans had in mind
I think the joke is that the poster only heard the phrase once, and it turned out to be the most disastrous thing ever uttered. At least, that's the joke I laughed at.Well, I'm from the US and I don't get it either, and a quick Google search didn't shed any light.
