no kidding.

Does someone who really knows what they are talking about tell me if MBP w/ 256MB video card would be better for gaming (WoW) than my desktop with Athlon 3500 and 7600GT? I'm not looking for an answer form a newb, like the guy who thinks the laptop can't even output at 1920x1200.

Yes i'm a newb :D well not really, probably been building my own desktop systems since before you were born there boyo :D I even owned a Voodoo... remember those?

I have a 17" MBP core duo (second gen) and I run WoW at 1680x1050 and it is a bit choppy at times with ALL the settings up. I generally keep terrain distance (the biggest setting killer) at 50% and all is dandy. Not sure how anyone here runs WoW at full settings on the 128mb graphic card model.. then again that runs a lower res at 15".

WOW PC version on a MAC

Ive got World of Warcraft + Burning on DVD for my PC. Is it possible to install that WOW version on my new MBP SR or do I have to buy a new "Mac wow version" ?

I'm sorry to be a party pooper but the 7600GT > 8600m GT

Don't get confused with 8600GT/S with 8600m GT!

Running games at 19200x1200 is pretty demanding let's not forget.
I don't think the 8600m GT will be able to get respectable frame rates, let alone the 128MB version.

I'm not hating on the 8600M GT, I think Apple has made a wise choice by choosing the 8600m GT it's way better than the X1600 M.

Just don't expect to be getting high frame rates at high res. This card isn't a 8800GTX.

that's what I needed to know. no point in getting a new MBP to replace my desktop if the gaming won't be as good.

ok guys sorry i havnt responded about the fans i couldnt find the damn thread cuz they moved it even though there are like a million other wow threads in teh MBP forums idiot mods. prob just an everquest loving mod lol... ok so my MBP is quiet as hell when playing for long periods of time. I played for about 6 hours the other day in outlands and my fans are very quiet at first and then they turned up a bit but nothing like my friends 2.33 MBP. It is sooo quiet.

Your current desktop would eat the new MBP at gaming.

If you want gaming on the go and could can it, get a Dell XPS/ Alienware laptop.

Can some people actually post some screenshots of their fps rather then just saying their fps. Some proof would be nice!

Both WoW and WoW: The Burning Crusade can be purchased at the Apple store. Whether it's actually installed on the in-store computers, I can't say for sure.

It's not, but if you put a copy of it on your iPod and play it from that, it'll give you an idea. I've done it before. :)

Edit: Didn't see the response above...I should read page two of the responses before I respond...
