It's very VERY addictive. Be prepared to give up any family, friends, or any other hobbies you may have.
Your going to get hooked.

Yeah, it's a good MMO. It is actually one of the few MMOs available for Mac. Most are PC only. I stopped playing around half a year back because it wasn't fun anymore for me.

It's a good game but you'll probably have to give up alot of your life to it. I stopped playing a few months ago when I just said "What the **** am I doing sitting in front of my computer killing virtual animals".

Yeah, the end game is just way too time consuming. When I compared how I played it in the beginning to how I ended up playing it at the end it was just like "how the heck did this happen?" It has a nice time usage curve that is gradual enough that you won't know you're spending more and more time on it. Kind of like the old boiling a frog metaphor.

6 hours a day will be the initial time investment. Once you hit 70 and are raiding, you will have to play for about 5-6 hours a night just for raids. Then, you have to farm, quest, and do a bunch of other ****. I remember playing last summer. Wake up around 11am, get right on wow, then get off at about 4am the next morning. I don't even think I got much done in that amount of time.

Not all guilds raid that much. Mine goes 3 hours (and are top 5 on our sever... admittedly a more casual RP server). And you will reach a point where you don't need to do much outside of raids. Might even feel like starting an alt to pass the time.

The new "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie is also advertised on TV, but.................. In all seriousness WoW is a good MMO, but it has room for improvement. A better one just hasn't come along yet.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm also getting WoW for m macbook (2GB ram) - can this game run on regular macbooks, how does it perform graphically?

The nice thing about WoW is that you don't have to do anything... there's plenty to do without raiding. I've played off and on for three years, have a 70 and a 68, and I've been in exactly two raids. I've never played for longer than a three hour stretch, and it's usually around two hours. WoW is great for casual play, because you can do almost everything solo or in small groups. There's no need to play for 17 hours at a time...

Raiding six hours a night is a misconception. Yes, if you manage to get into one of the hardcore raiding guilds on your server, you will probably be raiding your until your eyes pop out of your skull. And that's a big if, because you likely will not have the gear necessary for them to let you in.

When I joined my guild, they were spending the week trying to finish Kara and Gruul's Lair. A few months later, and we're four bosses into Serpentshrine, almost two bosses into Tempest Keep, and progressing very quickly. This is all from about three hours a night Monday through Thursday. (8 to 11, maybe a bit later if we're getting some good attempts in on our last boss, and we don't want to deal with trash mobs the next night.)

Huge misconception on time spent raiding. The poster above me has it about right for time learning content. As your guild furthers its gear progression these times come down even further. Currently in T5 content were about 3 hours a day 3 nights a week. This will probably go up a bit when moving to T6 content but once that is learned it will come back down.

It performs absolutely fine. I run it on my MacBook (GMA950) when I'm away.

I've been playing off and on for about two years now. I only ever buy one month's worth of subscription time at a time though because I usually lose interest. My friend's just joined up though and we've been playing together quite a bit.

I still haven't joined a guild with either of my characters. I just don't see the point really. Admittedly, the first instance I did was just a few days ago with my friend and I could see why for later level instances you'd need more people but I just can't be bothered to make 'friends' in WoW.

Guilds

It depends on what level you are at. If you're in outland, you definitely need to have a tank, healer and 3 DPS for 5 mans. Being in a guild makes it a lot easier to get those slots filled. Some pick up groups for instances can be really bad.

With the new guild bank feature it's awfully handy if you need a couple potions or picking up some materials for an enchant or a tradeskill recipe that you would end up grinding for or buying at insane prices on the AH.

If your guild is decent with decent people it makes the WoW experience even more enjoyable.

Neither of my characters are at Outland level yet. I really haven't played it enough for that. I've got a Level 44 Night Elf Hunter and a Level 25 Night Elf Priestess. The hunter was my first character and the priestess is my new character I created just before Christmas to play with my friend. I'm actually enjoying my new character quite a lot more. Having a pet can get quite confusing and dangerous when it chases after someone and grabs more attention. I also always heard that hunters were pretty strong characters and ideal for soloing with, however, back when I was level 20 I found I could usually handle enemies two levels above me and three if I was lucky. With my priest I can handle three levels above me without too much of an issue and have even managed four above at times.

I've heard that high level priests are pretty in demand when it comes to guilds so maybe I'll be useful come later on. :) What realm are you on, miller218?

No way will the MBP run WoW.

Look at the specs. WoW needs a 32GB video card and yours has 128-256. It also needs 512MB. WoW will never run on something that has 2GB.

Cheers for starting and liking a priest. :) I may start one someday. I DO have a hunter (level 30 alt) and what you hear is right. They're by a wide margin the easiest class to solo. I can without challenge handle mobs 2-3 levels above and 4-5 levels if I try. Elite mobs at the same level are also easy. I can do 5-man group quests solo. You just have to choose good talents (I'm leveling as BM) and know how to control your pet (I always, always keep it on Passive and have attack/stop commands bound to mouse buttons). Hunters also do some of the best DPS in the endgame.

In the endgame, for instances and raiding, good healers and tanks are in very high demand. Of course this is WoW and good = good gear = you played the game enough hours to get said good gear.

Unfortunately what also happens in raiding is that the few healers there are end up having to go to almost every raid, which causes them to burn out and sometimes quit.

Is it true that the game got made easier recently? My friend who's been a big big big time player since the beta days says that Blizzard made levelling from 20-60 a hell of a lot easier in patch 2.something. I've definitely found it easier this time around and quicker but that could just be because I've done it before.

I think I just wasn't too suited to being a hunter. I never really kept track of the talent points - particularly when I hadn't played for a few months and found all of them unlearnt, by which point I couldn't remember which ones I'd wanted before and why. I also never got the hang of traps and never bothered learning how to use them - something people seem to rave about.

I think when I do decide to join a guild it'll have to be a relatively low key one. When people ask for 'healers' does that mean that that character doesn't ever attack enemies, they just stand at the side trying not to draw any threat from anyone and heal the rest of the group?

yea, i'm sorry but you're just plain wrong I play it on my friend's mbp whenever i get the chance, I actually play it on my mb all the time but i think the mbp handles it a bit better. either way it will most definitely work on a mbp
