I held off for weeks and weeks to download the iOS 11. Finally took the plunge this week hoping the bugs would be worked out - OMG what a mess. The more I use it the more things don’t work at all. Epic fail for me.

Excel files from email won’t open in Excel app - they just spin. Can open in Numbers but not Excel.

Music app now does not work with my car software.

Cannot open a pdf file from email.

What the heck Apple? What’s the point of cutesy extra crap if the basics stop working. I’ve had the iPhone since 2007 and the iPad since the inception. Never have I felt so disappointed. I’ve always feel the premium pricing was worth it as the products “just worked”.

Apple - get your “****” together.

I stopped rushing to update my iPhone and MacBook Pro to the "Latest and Greatest" software releases because they have almost all been troublesome and buggy upon release and for a long time after. Not to mention they have an impact on performance too!

I'm not even bothered about upgrading my iPhone anymore, still rocking my iPhone 6. Apple isn't what it once was.

It's funny how an OS update can be so drastically different. I've been on iOS11/7+ since the 3rd beta and have had only the normal issues of a beta release but was really stable once it came out of beta. Battery drainage was an issue up to 11.1.2 and then it's been excellent since 11.2. None of the issues you describe. I've been opening Word/Excel/PDF files constantly from mail (Apple Mail app not 3rd party). BTW, those documents open up in the built-in iOS viewer for me and then if I want to edit I have to use the Share Sheet and Copy To. iPad 10.5" as well.

I always see everyone complaining about new releases but I actually run beta for years now and haven’t got any problems ever on my phone, got the iPhone X, maybe I’m just lucky ?

You are. Because I had never had an issue with updates on any of my devices (iMac, iPads, iPhone, Airport, etc) until iOS 11, then it went FULL POTATO on me. iPhone 8, stutter, lag, autofocus broke, freezing and more, all with DIFFERENT updates within iOS 11 (ex: 11.1, 11.2)

It will hit eventually and you'll see what we see.

Display laggy, poor bluetooth streaming, generally sluggish etc...seems Apple just optimizes for the newest devices and if it sort of works on older then out the door it goes. If your still running a 6 I suggest holding off. I sure wish I did. Never again.

Sure there are some every year, but I’m pretty confident that by any objective measure iOS 11 has been way worse.

f you want to count up the number of critical threads and posts from this and previous major versions let us know.
Well, if people are making the claim that by "any" objective measure it has been "way" worse then it seems like there should be things to back that up.

Well to bad for you.

Not really an appropriate answer to the OP. Everybody will have different experiences with iOS 11 across the board. Some have had no issues and others it's been rather problematic. But it's always difficult to measure how iOS 11 affects everybody differently, especially from what you read only on a tech forum.

What objective measure? A bunch of people complaining on an Apple-centric Forum (Which is what they've always done since this site became popular).
Any thread that uses such phrases like: "Worse release ever", "I had the iPhone since...", "Tim Cook is...", "all my friends had problems..." loses all credibility especially when they bring up selective memories of older version of OSs, praise Steve Jobs, or don't have enough basic knowledge of software development needed to form an argument that is not easily completely shut down by actual developers.

Nonsense. Mixpanel are showing 73% of devices running iOS 11 as of yesterday, if a significant number of users were experiencing significant issues <at all> then there would be a worldwide media meltdown, let alone if the "inevitable doom for every user" scenario you paint was remotely true.

https://mixpanel.com/trends/#report/ios_11/from_date:-41,report_unit:day,to_date:0

6S, no issues, stone cold (so not burning through battery) 10mins after putting 11.2.1 on just now.

Yes there are update issues but far from being a lottery or crapshoot they are more analogous to having a vaccination, there are occasional problems (measured as a %), but overwhelmingly they are beneficial to the population of users.

People who are complaining are actually doing a lot more than just texting and showing off their phone.

500 thread with the same theme. = talk about worst ever it is these people starting another thread with the exact same topic and issues that have been discussed the 499 time. i think MacRumors should start another forum for worst and it ruined my phone and leave the real forums for people who honestly are trying to resolve issues with the help of others.

To be more precise, though, the issue of “worst” is deciding which bugs are fundamentally worse. It’s always incredibly subjective. A bug that’s a major problem for me might be a minor niggle to you.
