I don't think I've ever done a fresh install on an iPhone, it's always been OTA updates and everything has worked very well. Everything still works very well with iOS 12, but I just noticed that system takes up close to 12 gigs of space, and I remember reading somewhere that 8 gigs would be closer to the correct amount.
Might be that one of these nights I'll do my first fresh install to see if that frees up some space. Then again, maybe I won't.
