Question for the room, would you rather have the current iPad min as the mini, or a scaled up iPhone pro max as the mini? Smaller iPad? Or larger iPhone? Cos i think I woule rather have the later

Current mini. I like the 3:2 aspect ratio for this size. A 16:10 AR similar to the Nexus 7 (2013) works, too.

I don't know. I have a pro max, it's my primary media consumption device. A full-sized iPad or iPad pro seems like it would be a better companion.

That said, there are niche cashes where a mini might be super handy. I've got a Mini 6 on order because I want to use it in my car as a display for my RV's backup camera, use it as an alternative to my iPhone to be a display for my DJI Drone, and use it as an e-reader. I'll happily admit that's pretty overkill for the price of the device, and I admit I'm curious if I'll ever use it OUTSIDE of those specific niche cases.

For me the question is, would it be worth getting an iPhone Pro Max (or other large phone) if I have an iPad mini? A phone couldn't replace my mini as a portable PDF reader. And once I take the mini with me everywhere, I don't need an extra large phone; it just needs to be large enough to make it comfortable to push the buttons.

I guess this is all coming from the fact I tried the mini in store, and Apple just refuses to optimize the software for the use case. I opened safari, ran a google search and the results in Portrait were so small, because the mini needs a mobile UI for safari given its size. The keyboard covers all the content, yet there it is like it's large ipad. Their lack of attention to detail and focus on design really makes the iPad a frustrating device for me. I want to like the mini but I'm like this isn't a great exp.

If you don’t love it or even like it, it’s not the device for you and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I haven’t flown my drone much, but the Mini 6 will be my display, as well. I think that the slightly shorter width in landscape mode will make it fit in the controller arms more easily. Touch ID on the side will be a little less cumbersome than the home button. Granted, I didn’t train the home button on my Mini 5 for both thumbs… Maybe I’ll be able to get my drone in the air at the camp next weekend and try it.
