Your missing the point here. The 6S+ and iPhone 7 were both like $200 bucks each new, both unlocked, and neither on a contract. If I was paying cash for a iPhone 8+ I wouldn’t think twice about it. But I’m not. I am setting up two iPhones 8 models on a contract with AT&T. So, I was looking for some opinions on this as I’d have the iPhone 8 for at least the 2 year commitment.

I guess the only point I'm missing is why you even bothered with a 6s+ or a 7, if you are just going to buy an 8+ anyway. And not sure why buying on contract vs. off matters, you're still paying full price, but with the latter you're AT&T's slave.

UPDATE:

I bought both phones.

SG iPhone 8 Plus 256GB.
GLD iPhone 8 64GB.

I didn’t realize how fast the A11 really is. Only about 15% slower than a A12. I should be just fine for years on this device.

I didn’t know I was gonna do all this.. I was ok with my old SE, until it just really started failing me on a daily basis.

So, I happened to be in Walmart and bought a new production retail 6S Plus.

Then for $14 more dollars I found a deal for a unlocked iPhone 7 128GB that was also brand new.

And I was gonna return the 6S Plus..

Well, my wife wanted a new phone so I just ordered two iPhone 8 models.

And I went from beat up SE, to (4) new phones in a snap..it just happen. And I do not regret a thing! I missed out on a lot of iPhones over the years since owning a SE in 2016. And since I am just now getting a iPhone 8 Plus, I will have a lot of iPhones ahead of me too!

Congrats! Loved my 8 plus, only just upgraded this week to an xs max after I found a deal I couldn’t say no to. If that hadn’t popped up, I would still be happily rocking my 8 plus.

You seem to be making up for lost time. Congrats.

Are you keeping all 4?

I have a question, who controls the Apple prices? Is it apple or retailer/carrier?

Thinking of the iPhone 8 too but Xfinity Mobile has $250 prepaid card offer currently too thinking they will leave at $599 if carrier has control.

The 8 is plenty fast - the X and XS are barely faster CPU wise.

I do find the fingerprint sensor pretty inaccurate on the 8 though and constantly have to enter my PIN number. Sort of want face ID.

I thought I'd care about the OLED screen, but after seeing it in person vs. the normal retina LCD screen I barely notice a difference, even on dark photos.

Never ever had issues with my Touch ID on my 8 plus. I would assume something faulty in yours

Then there’s something drastically wrong with your iPhone then. There’s no way the fingerprint sensor should be ‘inaccurate’, I would wager that you’d 1.) Have to re-register your finger and/or 2.) There’s a problem with the optical reader, etc. My iPhone 8 Plus has never failed on me, unless I have had damp fingers, which has been a pitfall always for a Touch ID.
