I see that it's almost 20g heavier, which is not good.
It's basically an updated iPhone 8. (same weight as 8)

In effect, yes. The iPhone 6 (unlike the 6S) isn't compatible with the newest software updates. That would be a main driver for me personally. The 6S is the oldest phone I would personally recommend to people because of that alone. The speed and camera capabilities, as well as a new battery would be enough for me to upgrade (which I'm doing...and I'm on a phone newer than the 6).

I purchased my son a new-old-stock 6S for Christmas, but I wouldn't have considered a 6 if it were the option solely because of out-of-support status. I need my kids on the newest software to have correct ScreenTime and iCloud functionality.

Yes. In almost every way, yes the new SE will be better than the iPhone 6. The iPhone 8 was arguably the most refined version of that form factor, and now the SE takes that and adds the latest chip-set. So yup.

While it may not seem like a big deal today, having the A13 drive the SE will hopefully pay off huge when IOS14 and future OS's are announced. It should be the powerhouse that the OG SE was.

I agree! The real problem isn't that iPhone 6 will not get an iOS 14 update. The problem is that it probably won't be able to handle the power demands of the iOS 14 update. So, switching to an A13 chip at $399, surely make sense.

Plus don't forget the camera, both front, and rear cameras are similar to iPhone XR's, minus the TrueDepth sensor. SE does offer all the basic Apple special features one could hope at that price.

I remember the iPhone 6 being around as fast as the 5s and the 6 Plus actually being laggier than the 5s.

I don't know what your performance expectations are like but for me, the SE is definitely a big improvement. And I'm someone who doesn't mind staying on older iOS versions as long as most apps still support it.

If you look beyond the similar appearance, yes. It's better in every possible way. The slight increase in weight won't really be noticed after about a week of usage, but also brings with it improvements as well in wireless charging. I know many don't use it - but it will be handy as more QI chargers are used away from home such as restaurants, air travel on planes and airports etc.

The 2020 SE weighs as much as the 8 and the 8 is not heavy by any means compared to a Plus phone. The 6 was the lightest 4.7" screen iPhone ever made and it paid for that distinction by being bendable - remember bend-gate?

The 2020 SE isn't much of an upgrade over an 8 but it's a HUGE upgrade over a 6. Just the ram difference (3GB vs 1GB) makes it worth it right there.

They do look pretty similar but all around going from a 6 to a (2020) SE would be a huge upgrade:
-Much faster, triple the RAM
-Support for latest version of iOS (probably for at least another 4.5 years)
-Much better cameras front and back
-Wireless charging (the trade off for heavier/glass back)
-Faster 2nd gen TouchID
-Water resistance

I'd rather to have bigger bigger battery with no wireless charging and no 3D touch.
Make it square chamfer egdes please and reduce earpiece & front camera space to have same X factor screen ratio.

God yes.

I went from a 6 Plus to an 8 Plus and the difference was staggering--and that's an 8 Plus! So much so, that I became immediately humbled by having using an aging device for so long. It did work but I had to make it work.

Just the instantaneous responsiveness of the OS is worth it. Imagine that plus everything else in there (best stereo speakers in the game, best camera, best chipset, true tone display, 3GB of RAM, wireless charging, taptic engine, faster touch ID, etc etc etc).

It will feel like a whole new phone

I think it would be huge. iPhone 6s felt like a big step up back in the day purely because it was the first iPhone with more than 1GB of RAM.

One other upgrade that I didn't see listed is that iPhone 8 and SE have fast charging (not just wireless charging), whereas iPhone 6 does not.

To me, that's a huge upgrade, since the phone charges much faster.

Yep, the SE is better in everything except:
- It's noticeable heavier
- It's noticeable thicker
- (This is a personal thing) I still prefer the feeling of the home button of the pre-7 iPhones.

weight really isn’t noticeable once you’ve used the heavier one for a week or so, you’re talking 130g vs 148g. In a case you actually notice it even less.

Same with thickness, 7mm vs 7.3mm it’s nothing after your used to the slight increase.

Home button had to be changed for water proofing and because the old ones had a much higher failure rate.

All I’m saying is, give it a chance as most will adjust without any issues.

Wide colour P3 colour gamut screen is also a major addition (since iphone 7). Once you get used to the richer colours you cant go back to a non P3 screen.
