It looks like this has Intel's HD 3000 graphics so that would be a definite no on the hardcore gaming. You need a dedicated gpu.

THIS^^

The GPU is not great at all, you are going to be paying a premium for gaming on a laptop. Your best bet is probably to look for ASUS gaming laptops rather than DELL.

i7? Check.
8gb ram? Check.

Yeah this seems like a good gami... waaaaitaminute. Intel 3000? Next!

Agreed.
Do a search for "mobile VGA chart" on Google and first link should be from Notebookcheck.net to see the performance on mobile graphic cards.
Look for something high-end like GTX560 which is found in ASUS G74(17") and G53(15") for example.
Anything above GTX560 will cost you an arm and a leg :)
Both ASUS models also comes with 3D glasses and special 120hz panels as option if you want to be that hardcore in gaming :)

/Cheers

Intel HD3000 is pretty much the worst you can get for gaming.

What games are you gonna play?

Sorry, but he's in the mac and PC Games section. Besides, a PC has always been undisputedly better for PC gaming than a mac, as you would have to install Windows on a mac, in which case you're spending hundreds more for less powerful hardware. Take your anti-PC hate elsewhere please.

You guys are too harsh on the HD 3000. It's okay for older games (circa 2008 or older). But I digress...
I wouldn't say that, it'd probably struggle to play an old game like Quake 4 (2004, I think) at decent settings.

If you want something for gaming, get a desktop PC. Cheaper, more bang for your buck. Do you NEED portability in this gaming computer? Do you have another main computer? Is it a Mac? Laptop?

You're hurting your computer's performance just by considering a Dell period. They're loaded down with so much bloatware and useless junk that has no way to remove other than a clean install that you may be buying good components but they won't live up to their specs. There is only one way to go with PC laptops and that's an Asus: I won't allow any other type of pc into my house than those and they are the best built machines on the market.

That's BS. Struggle with something from 2004? Where do you get off spreading inaccurate data?
I just downloaded and installed COD4 (circa 2007) last night from the App Store. It's on sale for half price this week. It runs as smooth as butter. I also installed Battlefield 2 in bootcamp, all settings maxed. Also in bootcamp, I play RTW with mods, all settings high. And Medieval 2 also settings high. Runs smooth. I've also previously installed Shogun 2 and ran it fine on low settings, I nixed it though due to perceived heat issues. (I didn't like HWMonitor showing 100c, but who knows how accurate that is).

The HD 3000 is roughly equivalent to the Nvidia 8600m GT in my old Dell XPS 17. You clearly have no first-hand knowledge of the capabilities of the HD 3000. No it's not something stellar, but for the casual gamer wanting to play titles from 2008 or before it's more than enough. Now stop ragging on the HD 3000 and instead contribute by actually listing a recommendation for the guy, ok?

Concur, we're nearing the end of new games that support the 8600. Battlefield 3 won't run on it. The last major game that will run it will be MW3 because its using the same engine as the other MW games. If all you wanna be is backwards compatible (and even then, some games will see the graphics are Intel and tell you that they straight up won't try running on the 3000), then sure it might do okay. Otherwise if you wanna be able to play anything new you're going to need at least a nvidia 460 or equivalent to be ready for the newer engines or play anything above 5fps. (okay I'm exaggerating a bit but you get the idea).

I can make some good recommendations but first what's your budget?

Thanks for all the replies guys, It really helps a lot :D

As far as my budget: I really wouldn't want to go above $2,000

Games I'll be playing: BF3, MW3, Fiesta, Rohan.
And possibly more..

I'm not really a hardcore gamer that'll spend all of my time on my computer (Sorta most of the time not ALL) But I just want a Laptop that'll live up to gaming and not slow down in 1year.

I'd rather have a laptop than a desktop.

So yeah, Again Thanks guys. :)

These contradict each other, build your own desktop and then buy a cheap laptop to have on the go. Simplest and cheapest.

I don't have any experience in building computers at all..I'm only 17 and still kinda new to it all. I haven't even took apart a whole computer and rebuild it yet.
:D

It's really quite simple to build your own desktop – and if you're clueless, there's guides all over the Internet. :)

I'm only 17

If it was 7 then this argument would hold ground. Much much younger people have done this and there are guides all over the internet. And at most likely 50% the price of the same spec'ed ready machine it's worth reading up on it.

Sure I'll read up on it. Thats now another goal in my life :D To build my own top notch superior desktop :)

Asus G74 series laptop is your best bet then. They're around $1500 depending on the fit and finish you pick and fully loaded for gaming with the 2670QM and the GTX 580 3GB, 4 RAM slots, blu-ray, and excellent airflow. Asus machines are also the best built laptops (other than mac's of course) available on the wide market. I won't allow any pc into my house unless it is an Asus.

I kinda agree with Hansr. It's much cheaper to build a pc rig, especially with you saying your budget is under 2000. Of course if you plan to game on the go, then I can understand why you want the laptop.

Usually newegg has awesome deals for pc components. Especially bundles where you can nab a nice high end video card + motherboard for an awesome price. The most money I can see you dab into is the videocard, memory, and processor. But with your budget, I think you can go crazy :D Make a best of a machine that can run anything. It'd be good for the next few years.

Haha Thanks ^_^

But I made my final decision and i'm ok with what i'm gonna get now.

But I do plan on learning how to build a Pc one day :D
