Question.. when you buy a refirb, do they include the latest OS? I too am thinking about picking up a MacBook, or MacBook Pro once Leapord is out, and I was just wondering if I could buy refirb right away with Leapord, or if I'd have to wait another few months for the Leapord refirbs to come in.

I bought a Refurb dual 1.8 G5 about a year ago, and love it. No problems so far. Definitely going to buy refurb again.

As for the OS question, mine came with Panther installed and Tiger on discs. This was nice because Tiger was fairly new at the time, so I waited a while until I felt they fixed the minor bugs, then installed Tiger.

I know there's nothing wrong with refurbished Macs, but I just don't think I'd buy one. I like buying new.
I feel the same way. I prefer the new computer (or car, for that matter) to the second-hand ones. I know this is going to be an expensive personal trait of mine but as long as I can afford it, I will go for the new one at all times.

Considering there is a chance to get a higher spec machine than standard off-the-shelf unit, getting a $100x discounts, and have the same warranty as a new machine.

Heck, sometimes they are new machines that Apple is unloading to clear the channel.

Not a bad deal, and the new machine will be used the second you open the box.

I got my referbished iBook about a year ago too, I too waited for the major OS bugs to be worked out before I bought it. My cousin was supprised when I told him that it did not come preinstalled with the latest OS (he worked in an apple store for several years) but that's the only thing.

A few months ago I put the strength and quality of my iBook to the test, I dropped it 2 - 2 and 1/2 feet to cement while it was in sleep mode... Not even a crack or ding. Still when it happend my heart skipped a beat.
