Thanks everyone for the advices.

I was thinking about changing because I really don’t need much horsepower for my workflow, since I’m a journalist and basically need good web performance and I use a lot of Microsoft Word.

The bigger screen is REALLY helpful for my workflow, since I have A LOT of tabs open at the same time. The iMac feels really snappy, but I thought the M1 should feel even snappier with the M1.
If you don't need much horsepower then I would stick with what you have. You current machine is probably good for at least another 5 years. You can add more RAM if you need more browser tabs (something you can't do with the M1).

It is important to remember that the M1 Macs are a first gen product and they do have a few issues. If you have a Mac that is meeting your needs it is much better to wait for a later generation. By then any hardware and software kinks will have been worked out.

Personally, delighted with the imac 24 M1 16GB 512GB with superb display, and I do not regret the 27 5K of 2013 for a moment. I have adapted my way of working on photo processing and many other apps. I paired the 24 with a gorgeous Eizo 27 display and a Nas Synology 24TB system for daily backup.
I have never consulted my web pages in full screen but on a part of the screen, no problem of memory and storage. Everyone to see but I would not change my config today.
Very nice day

For me the new 24” iMac was a major investment, as I didn’t get the base spec and wanted Ethernet and TouchID. But I wasn’t disappointed, the screen size is nicely judged for pretty much everything I want to do, it’s a good size. It’s been very good so far, very few problems or glitches.
