So those that say the mini is perfect one handed must have a skinny thumb they type with?

Something tells me that Apple wouldn’t have gone to all that R&D trouble to make a smaller phone just to make sure they had something to keep that $699 slot. Getting all those components (especially the mmWave antenna) to fit in a small package definitely wasn’t cheap.
I doubt there’s that “significant” amount of R&D compared to the iPhone X. The base frame design is practically the iPhone 4/5 and the rest follows the iPhone 12, just with smaller battery. It’s not like Apple designed the mini separately. As for RoI, the 12 itself will surely covers the returns, and imo the mini design will go for the next SE, and it will boost sales again.

Excellent point. Apple spent too much money on the mini for it to me a one of. If they were going to stick with a one of, it would have made more sense for it to be the cost effective SE 2020, which it very well may be.

I'm hoping like heck that the flat edge mini is the next SE, complete with an LCD screen 🤤

Ok if they do discontinue it, for iPhone 13, I would keep my mini. I may even keep it till iPhone 14. But I'll have to update if its past 2-3 years and I guess I can always update to the next model, maybe the biggest one or the smaller version depending on my needs. Right now the mini has been the most different iPhone since the iPhone 6 Plus.

I plan to use my Mini for 4-5 years anyway, so we’ll see in that forthcoming future.

I kept my 6 for 6 years waiting for this Mini. Was going to replace it with an X, but financial condition forbid. Then along came bigger and bigger standard (cheaper) iPhones. The first and second SE wasn’t in consideration for they lack the newest SoC.

I’m going to buy an iPhone 13 Mini. I’m just waiting for Qualcomm’s X60 modem to be used, and hopefully get a bump in battery life. 🤷🏻‍♂️. I need longer battery life than what the current Mini would give me.

If they did discontinue the Mini, I’d buy the current 12 Mini and stick with it until Apple releases something comparable. I’d charge it more often. It’s not perfect, but if I had no other choice....

The size of the mini is perfect for me. If I had to, I’d go up to a 5.8’’ phone made by Apple, Google or Samsung.

There is no example of Apple discontinuing a newly released iPhone with a new form factor after 1 year. Why is this thread even a thing?

Would love a 5.8 inch model again. To me, there’s a huge difference in feel between the 6.1 and 5.8 models.
Agreed. Mostly because 5,8” would be smaller than 6,1” in 12-ish design language. Once I saw bigger than 5,8 I immediately choose mini. XS was soooo heavy for me (not too mention 11 Pro) and I really love an iPhone which I can use with only one hand if I have to.

Finally someone clever here. There are so many factors mixed here so I wouldn’t judge sales of 12 mini only 3 months after release.

Exactly this. Not going to happen!

No. Have you had skinny thumb when there were only 4” or even 3,5” iPhones? 🤔😉 This mini is far more bigger than it was back then and still there are haters with bigger phones who are mocking this device. I don‘t know why.
Good respond bro. Happens everywhere. People with smaller preferred items like watches, gadgets, camera bodies, gets mocked like this. Saying the fault is the smaller hands, thumbs, body figures. While preferences are not always about smaller limb sizes, this is down right body shaming and shallow thinking.

Upgraded to an 128GB iPhone 12 Mini after waiting for years with a 1st Gen iPhone SE. The upgrade is huge and I don't see myself changing a phone for at least another 4 years as this is the phone that I've always wanted.

Having said that, I don't think that Apple will drop the Mini design any time soon. They have spend a lot of money on R&D to have only one model of this size. So, I think it's safe to say that we will see iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 14 Mini. After that, when a new form factor will emerge they might naturally want to change screen sizes (and physical dimensions) based on sales but I have a feeling that Mini sales will give them a reason to keep a "small" model in the market.

No.

I've tried the 6.1" iPhone 12, and even tho it is more confortable than the previous 6.1" iPhone 11, I still can't reach with my thumb the control center. I've tried the 6.1" iPhone 12 because damn, I like a bigger screen, like everyone, but I can't use it one handed. I think, if they had kept the 5.8" size with the new flat edges form factor, it could have been a great device even for using it with just one hand.

But no, between 6.1 and 5.4", I will chose the smaller one, because it is the only one I can handle. A slightly bigger iPhone mini (5.6 or 5.8") would have been perfect for my hand, but I understand there are many hand sizes.
