I own a white iMac core duo and I must say I really like it in white. A friend of mine has the silver 27" i5 quad and it adds consistency to the entire mac line. Now that iPhone, iPad and macbook is in white then it only makes sense to bring back the iMac in white too. I think people who already have a white iPod and iPad would buy. I think I would buy too.

What do you think?

No, I think it had its day. iToys may be offering more white options but Macs have been steering away from them (iMac, Mini now aluminium).

I do wonder how long the white MB will be around. If you want a lower spec laptop there is the Air (portable to) if you want more power there is the 13" MBP. The MB doesn't seem to have a raison d'etre anymore, so I think it will be phased out and that is what will bring consistency to the Mac range.

I don't think they will ever make the macbook air in white because the aluminum is what creates the rigidness to the product.

That to. Like I said, I don't think we will see aluminium (or whatever comes next) Macs only soon. White phased out completely.

yes please white or any other friendly color , and away with that dull grey , its alright for the foot , but not for the whole iMac :(,
and Apple please bring back the early iMac G5 case , simple to open no chance of damaging something ,for upgrades and more important for cleaning inside , the main cause of early death of iMac's especially the new unibody , because many are afraid of killing their iMac by opening it up , to many killed their isight camera and display in the upgrade or cleaning attempt
and indeed i think it is ridiculous that you got to take out the complete lcd panel to clean the iMac inside

Whatever material they use for future imacs (and any other Macs), I guess it would have to be able to be recycled (to fit in with Apple's Green policies) and at least as strong as the current aluminium cases. If they could do this I wouldn't mind seeing a white iMac again, I always thought they were distinctive.

They could offer it in white by simply powercoating the mac in white.

What's weird is that they made the MacBook pros more user servicable and the iMac less user servaceable.

Define "White"?

If you mean white color from Polycarbonate, just like in MBW and pre 2008 iMac, i'd say no thanks .. That's a definite downgrade from current iMac, unless they are priced around $800 and using 17" screen, there's no reason Apple going back that way

But if the white comes from color-anodized aluminium, that would be a welcome change. In fact, Apple should make options about iMac colors. Since aluminium able to be color-anodized, with outstanding durability and color consistency, then I think it's time for us to see red, orange, blue, purple, or even green iMac .. just like old times 1998 iMac :)

Only in aluminium, and iX sandy bridge intel processor

As someone who got lured toward the Mac by those colorful iMac G3s, never to return to the Evil Empire, I agree that color choices would be great. Of course, they would have to be aluminum, or whatever material could top it, because Macs should always have the upper hand over competitors in build quality.
Don't think it's gonna happen though. Apple's on a role with the consistent brushed aluminum across the Mac lineup.

Oh hell yes, that would be a great idea. Don't get me wrong though. I think the current iteration of the iMac in it's black and silver look is beautiful, but now that I finally got my white iPad 2, I'm really loving the look of glass over the glossy white.

It would be great to see Apple remove the chin and have just the bezel, ala ACD and have that white/black. But if Apple can't do that, then making the entire front glossy white (bezel + chin) with glass I guess like the G5 iMac. Yea, I'd be ok with that too.

A purely glossy white bezel covered with glass would be rather heavenly :D

Voted yes. The white imac has a much more stylish ad cleaned design, without mentioning the matte screen:

I would love to see someone take a picture of the white iMac and both white iphones and ipads docked with it.:D Anyone out there that would be able to do that?

i mention it again as it seems in nobody's interest or of any concern , why not make it user serviceable , ok if you all live in a absolute dust free environment and you got hdd's that last forever , then ok , but i dont , so having the ability to just open the iMac and clean it inside or change a harddrive like on the early G5
would along the white color and matte screen option be a top priority to me , as its a fact the chance is there to easy kill the isight camera and the display if you are forced to remove it to clean the iMac inside , and if you dont clean it the iMac will die a early totally avoidable death too , because if you belive it or not they collect a decent amount of dust which clocks up fans and fins inside

and yes apple some people think about cleaning their computer from time to time even from the inside , and nobody i know would like to pay a apple repair technician to do something that could easy be done at home from a 5 year old if the design would be a bit more user friendly, but a lot of iMac's never get opened because of fear of owners to damage something , and if you ever have opened such a iMac that was unopened for 5 years you know what i am talking about , and its no wonder if then components fail due to insufficient cooling

so from that perspective the current design is a total fail
and to show you how it looks inside most imac's who appear clean on the outside

so you can imagine how efficient cooling is , and that is not a one off , most look like that inside after a year or two , even if the owners hold vacuum cleaners on the entry and exit
only because people hve not the guts to remove the display, as to many have damaged it in the attempt

I like the white, it looks clean, but also harder to keep clean and fingerprint free as a result!
you will see more fingerprints on the black ,
and my iMac is clean inside and out and its a white one and you wont see fingerprints anyway as i never touch it actually ,as it has no touchscreen and i dont have to move it around , and the matte display is easier to keep clean even if some small hands would touch it
all you need to touch is the keyboard an mouse or trackpad , so the iMac cant get fingerprints really

Voted YES.

Keep the existing iMac line as is, but with the addition of a 17" in white and price it at $799.

Where do I order?
