I hope iPads will stay 4:3 (or the ratio of the 11 pro, which is half way between 4:3 and 3:2, not 3:2), because that's the best ratio for portrait use and good for other things like office and even browsing...
Instead I wish Samsung would move from 16:10 to 16:9, since 16:10 is basically useless for portrait use and at least it would improve for videos.
I use my Tab S7+ for video watching / streaming, and it's the best device at that, better than any iPad (better aspect ratio, better sound, better screen, lighter than the 12.9, and for local videos, better file management and microsd support).
I don't think Samsung will change the ratio, but I am waiting for the new S8 ultra with a 14.6in screen at only 650 gram (less than the M1 12.9in), which will be the ultimate video watching device (sure, a luxury one at over $1000, but the iPad pro 12.9 is a kind of a luxury item too, especially the 16GB RAM versions, since most of the time it's not used to make money because of the limitations of iPadOS, although more versatile than the Samsung)

For any other tablet use, the iPad pro is the best tablet.

And I have moved to 3:2 with my desktop setup too (3:2 laptop + a 28in 3:2 monitor driven by 3 devices, M1 Mac mini, Windows desktop and the mentioned laptop)

Almost all PC computer monitors are 16:9 or 16:10 or wider these days

My 35" UW monitor is really great for having multi tabs open at the same time.i would now hate to use a 4:3 ratio for this
I would love a 4:3 monitor. A squarer ratio would be better for websites, writing, coding, art, and just about everything I do. Multi tabs have the option of using multiple screens. The wrong ratio cannot be fixed for a single application. The iPad highlights how much better a ratio it is. I have a 16:9 Android tablet, which has only been used for app development, partly because iPadOS is better, but also because of the aspect ratio.

LG just announced an even squarer monitor, 4,5:4 (technically it's 4:4.5, that is a vertical monitor, but can be rotated horizontally) and is planning to do other square aspect ratios in the future (hopefully 4:3 too). For now the only square one on sale (which I bought) is the 3:2 28in Hawei Mateview (which has also the benefit of having a USB C input, in addition to minidisplay and HDMI)
This monitor made me realize that iPadOS does not work with a monitor, even when the aspect ratio is the same, since every thing is blown up to a ridiculous size. iPadOS needs a properly scaled desktop mode before it can work with a monitor.

I see a lot of people here would not like a wider ratio for the 12.9

But feel it kind of strange no one seems to complain about the wider ratio on the 11" air/pro and new 8.3 mini
I have ended up with iPad 9th Gen after iPad Pro 11 and iPad mini 6. Did not like the aspect ratio of the others

How many of you would like to see apple change the 12.9 ipad pro from a 4:3 ratio to a 16:9 ratio ?
Absolutely not! If Apple does that, it would mean I would have to discontinue using the iPad, which would be a serious loss to me. Indeed, I can, with some justification, say that the iPad’s AR (including the slightly different AR for the 11” version) is its USP for me and is what makes it unique and incredibly useful for my purposes.

Great, so when we get a 35" iPad, then we can talk ? Seriously though, most PC monitors that consumers use are much larger than even the largest iPad, so it's a totally different scenario.
