So far, the App Store hasn't really had any console quality games. A few games have come close, like Real Racing and most GameLoft games. The production value just isn't there that would be in a $40-$50+ game. The highest price for a popular game seems to be $10. I always hear people complain that they're only getting a game that takes an hour and a half to three hours to complete, even though the game is only $10. I always hear people request multiplayer in games as well. The power of the iPhone was more comparable to the more powerful cell phones out rather than even the PSP, graphics-wise. With the iPhone 3GS, a developer could raise their production level and budget considerably to create games more comparable to what you'd find on consoles, if not full ports of new games. Would you actually be willing to pay for much higher quality games? If a developer creates a $40 game and it doesn't sell as well as they hoped, that could destroy the potential for console quality games. The iPhone would be a much better gaming device with higher priced, higher quality games.

No way, especially not a game. Although I wouldn't pay that much for any phone app.

That's exactly the quality I'm talking about. If games were 360/PS3/PC quality (not necessarily graphics-wise, though the iPhone 3GS should be able to be pretty impressive), would you pay a comparable price for that quality on the iPhone ($40/$50 is still cheaper than a 360/PS3 game)? Even if it was just a port, it would be nice to have the option to play new console releases on your iPhone.

on the iphone no way.
I think the most I would pay would be $5
Maybe $10 if it was completely awesome. But anything more than that I couldn't justify especially with it being a small screen and limited controls.

That's a lot of money for something that is going to overheat my device if I play it for longer then a couple of hours. There's a limit to quality and what not...

the games could never be that quality with the current iphone

add in that the interface sucks for gaming, its still a big no

i think so far the games are a pretty good deal. most handheld games are like at least 25. so i think 5 and 10 and even 15 are a good deal.

When the PSP launched, several Xbox 360 games were ported over with the same release date as the 360 versions. Most ports sucked, but some were great. I'm pretty sure that if a developer releases an iPhone version of a game exactly like the console versions, they'll start a new trend. Even just showing that it's possible with some work to create a high-quality iPhone 3GS game, will lead a few companies to follow that.

Nah, as someone said that is in the realm of current generation gaming console systems. I could see myself spending around $20 for high-quality games.

But then again, what do I know? If they are really that awesome then I might consider it. I mean, I have my phone with me ALL THE TIME as opposed to my PS3/360 which are at home. So I'd take that into account a lot.

Hell No. That's why I have Game Boy, PSP, Xbox, PS3 and two Wiis. The iphone is a phone/pda that can play some "cute" games. It ain't a console/hand held level game platform. I guess next people will be crying of 1080P with HDMI output.

I would pay PSP or DS prices if the games had that much depth to them. For example, if there was a true port of GTA or Final Fantasy to the iPhone, I would pay for that.

To me it's a question of value. As of right now there is no game on the iPhone that is worth that kind of money. Eventually you will see a generation of iPhones that will have PS2 graphics ability with 64GB,128GB or 256GB that will able to have large file sizes for games. By then there will be many third party controllers for the hardcore gamer if Apple doesn't develop one themselves.

personly

I think a programmer or team, company would do better write a really good game and keep it at the $9.99 $14.99 tops beyond that I think you loose allot of people. it's 1000 sales at $9.99 vs say a 100 sales at $49.99 even if the reviews are fantastic from those 100 how many will risk the $50 bucks vs say 1000 people saying it's great at $10, anything over $10 for a game is a tough sell imo lots of good addictive games for even 99 cents to kill time! ;)

We're talking console games at that price.

I'd pay more than .99 for a great game. It just depends on how great the game is.

With no resale ability/used game market and limited controls, I can't see a gaming tier in that price range. I don't think $10 is the limit, but the game would really have to be top notch to go beyond that.

No 360 game has ever been ported to the PSP.
Also, PSP launched before the 360.

Just because there is a game with the same name on two different consoles, it doesn't mean it was ported. Especially when one is astronomically weaker than another.
For instance, Assassin's Creed for iPhone is not a port of Assassin's Creed for 360.

i'd say $25-$30 would be my max but it largely depends on quite a few factors. quality, replay value, and length.
