If you had the opportunity to trade your macbook pro core 2 duo for a macbook core 2 duo would you. Just for the sake of portabiltiy and possilbe durability of the casing. I am down to the last 3 days of my return period and think I am going to make the trade up. Has anyone else done so?

I have a MBP and a CD MB. I would never go back to using a MB now. I was using it the other day (as its now my mums computer when I brought a C2D MBP) and I really find myself straining to see the 13" screen.

No way, no how. I was debating whether to go with a MBP or a MB for a few months. Reading every piece of literature I could find on the two machines... For a second, I almost decided on getting a macbook, but after seeing two people at a local starbucks, one with a MB & one with a MBP. I came to the conclusion that the MB just looks like a toy compared to a MBP. I would gladly spend the extra $800 on a machine that looked and felt to me like a professional notebook. I just can never see myself doing actual work on the MB, even though it's a powerful machine in itself. It really just looks like a giant ipod to me hehe. Oh and I aboslutely detest glossy.
Couldnt agree more (apart from with the glossy part). However, I really do like the look of the Blackbook, but yes I think the white one looks a bit "Toyish".

All right I get the point. I went to the store today and looked at the mbp and black macbook side by side and couldn't do it. I really like the looks of the black macbook but kept thinking I would be shooting myslef in the foot as far future upgrading. I also liked the size factor but when they are side by side it really isn't that much bigger. I do think that it would travel better as far a durability but I have a good sleeve and planning on buying the new speck case for the duo 2 when it comes out.
This is my first mac and just wasn't sure if I went overboard with the mbp. To be honest I am not a gammer, graphics designer, or video editer, but its nice to know if I wanted to I could with the mbp.

No way. I need the Radeon (although I still don't understand why the "home" laptop comes with the business-grade GMA, but the "pro" system includes the game-friendly X1K).
Last year I returned a brand new Powerbook and got an iBook instead, and it was one of the best decisions I could've made. Portability, durability, and not much performance difference for almost a third of the price.
But I don't think I'd do the same thing if I had a Macbook Pro.

First, no, I wouldn't make the trade. I love my MBP much more than I loved my MB.. I'm finally HAPPY with a lappy, and I wouldn't trade that in for a little easier portability.
Second, I really don't understand the durability argument. My PB was thrown around without a sleeve, carried with me everywhere, stored with books... but never picked up a single scratch or dent. Do people really have that much trouble with the alum. casing?

Keep in mind that in the end you could barely tell the difference between a PB and iBook blindfolded. Seriously the hardware was virtually identical. Admittedly where it counts the MBP and MB are pretty close in specs. With a few notable exceptions like a real video card, expansion, and FW800.

It wasn't a dumb question at all. You save a huge chunk of change and get 90% of the computer. The only losses are in screen size and video card. Depending on the user, that might not matter, and you could save some money that would be put towards other things.
