Wouldn't it be awesome if iPhone/iPod had a FM transmitter built in so there were no need for third party products AND you wouldn't have to worry about carrying anything except you device. I personally prefer a direct connection in the car rather than transmitting but I would DEFINITELY use a feature like this.

it would be nice, but apple would never put that in the iphone, the quality would suck, direct connection is much better quality via AUX cord or cassette adpater, or through the USB cable

i could be wrong though, id never think apple would put a radio in their ipods

I can't believe that havn't come out with a better "version"/solution for the transmitters that are already on the market. Even the expensive ones you get the "fuzzy" and what-not.

Eh, I guess it could be useful for somebody, maybe, though I'd never use it. I tried using an FM transmitter with my first iPod mini and HATED the sound quality (or lack thereof). I've used both the cassette adapter and direct connection since then and both are vastly superior; I can't ever imagine myself going back unless there was absolutely no other alternative.

wow

what a original idea and thread! Steve Jobs hire this man PLEASE! with the apps I get thousands of stations from around the world at one time I thought that but I get every station I could possibly want plus a 1000 more. at one time i'd say yes but I will pass!

HAHA! Are you mocking me?

Le contraire, actually it was meant to say that there are many things that people want in the iPhone that Apple will not put in. (But they finally gave in to an FM radio receiver, so anything would be up their black sleeves now). Sometimes my humor is, well, not humorous to others.

Did you guys know what is a "transmitter" as opposed to a "receiver"?

A transmitter is for transmitting signals OUT OF the iPhone (eg: transmit MP3 to car radio),
A received is for receiving signals INTO the iPhone (eg: FM radios).

Duh....:p

Agreed. I have had a couple of FM transmitters for my iPod and they really do suck. I prefer a direct connection.

Not really enamored of FM radio. They don't seem to play much decent music and there's too many commercials.
Front facing camera doesn't seem to be much of a winner either. It's good for vanity pictures and video conferencing. Doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

Would like to see...
-utility to free up memory
-128 or 256 GB iPhone offered for 2010
-better optical lens for iphone's camera

I think it's pretty obvious from the comments posted in this thread that we are all well aware of what an FM transmitter is.

i think you know what the difference is.
But problem is half the post is talking about transmitter to enable good car-audio transmission, while another half is talking about radio receptions.

For transmitters, I would say it is "dumb" to do so, because most iphones or ipods users do not drive. They commute by bus, trains or anything which frees them up to do their thing on the device.

For radio, the argument is not sound for business, because Apple wants you to buy from iTunes. So a radio is a brick thrown at their feet.

I hope this helps.
Really.

The issue with builtin transmitters would be interference, and the current generation of FM transmitters are a right pain when driving across the country.

It would be nice to have an fm transmiter. Just think about it...........
Use it in Rental cars, friends cars, work cars
use it in hotels that have a radio but no iPod dock
use it at a friends house
lots of uses

A fm reciever would also be nice. Sometimes I like to listen to local stations that you can't get online. Also many gyms use fm transmitters to broadcast the TV stations. For a change of pace it is nice to watch the news or other tv shows while at the gym.

Perhaps a FM thing (txn or rxn) will interfere with the GSM T/R?
How about a toothpick, a screwdriver and also a toe-clipper?
:p
Just kidding.

Where did you get that fact. Sources please? Total made-up BS!!!!
