Here is the latest from the EA website regarding us poor schmucks who have an iMac with an ATI video card. They are clearly blaming Apple. It would be really nice if Apple would step up to the bar and either confirm or deny the rumor of a new driver being worked on. That way I will know if I should return this copy or not. It appears that if I had bought the Windows version of the game, I could be playing it now uder BootCamp. There is something really wrong with that picture. Apple, your image is tarnished somewhat here. EA - you already have a tarnished image.

"Apple is planning to release an update to address many of these issues. We originally thought that this update would be released at the end of October, but are now aware that it will be released at a later date.

Unfortunately I do not currently know the estimated time of release, but I'll post when we have more information on when the update will be available.

Cheers,

Jim,

It always hurts to admit some things work better in Windows, but I have to confess that it is still easily ahead of OS X as a gaming platform. Goodluck with your speaker issue. It doesn't surprise me that you've had issues with getting help from EA. Their customer support is about as good as their programmers write code.

I have yet to get an Ace, but what is more frustrating is the fact that each of my 7 and 5 year old sons have one to their credit! And they haven't logged too many more hours playing than I have. It's just amazing how quickly kids pick up on these video games and how good their eye-hand co-ordination is.

Good luck as well on the Leopard installation. I already love it. Most of the improvements are definitely "under the hood". But it has been the most stable operating system upgrade experience I've had (Windows or Mac). On 2 of my computers I did an erase and clean installation. A third I just simply did the standard update. All three have been very stable and seem to work equally well. Again, I'm still deciding on what RAID configuration I want on my Mac Pro before I do the upgrade on that system.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Just upgraded to Leopard yesterday and so far all is well and very stable. What a difference in the speed of the Mac native apps, now that they are taking advantage of all cores and 64bit. Much faster. I especially like the new "quick look" feature.

TW08 is still running ok under Leopard, but alas the sound is still the same. I haven't checked or updated the drivers on my bootcamp partition yet, but will do so today. I'm sure it will be ok. At least I can run TW08 on both XP and OSX if I want to. Talk about overkill...

You'll get that ace soon, in the meantime, give those boys a big high five!!

Hi Rich,
I hope they get this out for you soon, but take heart, if not, you should be able to play it on a Windows partition. I have now since the Windows version came out in Aug. It runs perfectly on my XP Home partition, in fact better than the Mac version, much faster. I was disappointed that the Mac version is not at least as fast as the Windows version, but it still runs ok. My problem as noted in my posts is just with the sound issue, which EA acknowledge is a known issue. Supposedly they are working on it, we'll see.

Woot! Woot! Good News!!!

My last word on this thread, I hope. I downloaded and installed the latest (today's) software update from Apple and it fixed my problem! :D
Have only played around with it a little bit so far, but it seems to be working very well!
Now If I can just find a NO-CD fix...

Rich :)

Rich,

Great news!! So glad to hear that you got your issue finally resolved. Now if I could get my Bose speakers to work right I'll be all set too. I did contact EA Tech Support by phone and talked with a nice fellow who seemed like he would really try to help. We'll see.

No CD fix, if you find one let me know, but I doubt if one will be coming anytime soon. Note when the program starts the disc disappears off the desktop, so a disc image file will not work.

I picked up TW2008 yesterday and installed it on my 24" 2.4 iMac running Leopard. The game has been running flawlessly for me. One question I do have though is why does it ask me to insert the DVD evertime I open the game? Doesn't the game reside on the HD?

Yes it does reside on the HD, but EA uses a security/anti-pirate scheme that will require you to insert and keep the DVD in your drive each time you play the game. In the Mac world that is. In the Windows world as soon as it was released there was a fix for that on the internet, the first day.

Ah! Thanks for the info Jim. This is my first game switch I have switched to the Mac back in August.

It's frustrating, I know. I made the switch back in June from PC to Mac too. I'm glad I did, but it is a pain having to put the DVD in each time.

What bothers me even more is having to leave the DVD in the drive. I don't particularly like having to insert thr DVD every time, but all the games I've had in the past only required me to put the DVD in long enough for the game to check that it's there. After that, I could take it out. Not with this game. And, it is really quite hot when it comes out.
Anyway, if anyone finds a NO-DVD crack for this game, I'll gladly use it. I tried making a copy of the original DVD to save my original - a completely legal operation even for EA - but no go, it didn't work

Hi Rich,
I share your thoughts. I've tried to find a crack, but no luck so far. It would be nice to find one.

How do you like the game so far? Good graphics and sound on your Imac? I'm still dealing with the sound issue on my Bose Speakers, and have contacted a fellow by phone at EA. He told me he would get back to me on Friday, ,but never did, so we'll see.

Jim: Initially, the game wouldn't work at all, as you know. The first set of new drivers released allowed me to play the game, allbeit at a slow speed. I cranked the graphics up to 1980 x 1200 (or whatever that is on my system) and had a blast. I had fairly severe flashing textures, but I could play the game, and that made me happy. I am very pleased with the game overall, graphics are very good, and as far as sound goes, the first thing I always do with my games is turn the "music" off . So i can't really comment on your speakers issue, when I want to hear good sound out of my Mac, I put on my Sennheisers . I find there is nothing quite like a good set of headphones. Anyway, the latest iteration of graphics drivers (released today) have really upped the ante. Now the graphics are slightly sharper (Natalie looks really good) AND, they are much faster - and no texture flashing...
I'm quite happy now, and feeling I definitely made a good choice going to a Mac.:D

Good glad to hear that. No word yet from EA. I'll give them another couple of days before calling them again to see if they have come up with anything yet. In the meantime, I can shut down my Bose and listen to the sounds through my internal speaker. No distortion there. I'll have to put a pair of headphones on and see if that makes a difference or not.

Since Apple updated the drivers on the graphics side, maybe EA or Apple will find a solution on the sound issues as well.

I'm just about to play Natalie in the Challenge section. So far I'm about 1/4 of the way up the Challenge ranks.

Have you gotten an "ACE" yet?

Good Playing.

Jim

Works fine. However, when I try to install the update, the installer crashes.

Also, the requirement to have to have the DVD inserted is a right pain in the ass. Means whenever I might want to play it, I have to carry the DVD around with me.

I tried the Windows 'no DVD crack', but the game doesn't load with that.

me. i cant update the game too. and no way to hack the videocard issue, or the nodvd thing.
i lost 50 bucks.
