WoW Cataclysm- Is it all you hoped?

Five days premature on this post to retail, but there are those playing the beta. I got to take the grand nostalgic tour on a friends account and am always impressed with the game and especially now with the terrain changes they have made. I started in Shatrath City and flew to the portal back to Azeroth, did not notice much difference. I did not go through the entire world, but I was impressed with the sea level rise noticeable in Tanaris and Dark Shore, the large inland lake that used to be the Salt Flats and Thousand Needles North of Gadget, Ashenvale burning (sad), most of the dinos in Ungoro were awol and a new Alliance camp was located near the center, the original flight on the N. end of the zone was gone, the upheavel in the Barrons and more. Some zones are mostly unchanged.

It was fun seeing it again, but I have no desire to return on a subscription basis. I'm a little sad. :(

Anyone know if this is it for WoW or are there rumors of more expansions to come?
Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's real or not, but there was a leaked Blizzard release list, and there were 2 WoW expansions on it, one for 2012 (I think), and another for 2015.

Wouldn't be any surprise, TBC came out in January 2007, WoTLK November 2008, Cataclysm December 2010. So the next expansion will probably hit in late 2012...

I find it a little bit of a let down as far as the whole new 1-60 experience Blizz promised. A couple of the lower level zones I did really didn't feel all that new and had identical quests to earlier content. Overall I think its better.

I can't really know for sure, but I bet the new 80-85 zones will be great. I'll see in the next couple days/months.

I had thought that more of the zones would be changed, but I level so much with dungeons and battle grounds that it's not a huge deal. The redone zones have vey nice changes though.

My computer can barely handle the graphics, but it looks amazing, even on the minimum settings.

All I do is raid competitively in WoW so I do not really care about the zone changes. But I might level up another alt so that I can see the new zones later when raid progression gets to a steady pace.

Very good changes made to the game.

Could have used some updates to the crafting side of the game.

Otherwise, its very nice looking and a good update

The way I heard it, mainly the lvling is supposed to go quicker. I also recommend heirloom gear to help speed this up. I think the two pieces of gear for each class stack their xp bonuses. Don't quote me on that.

They do stack.

Blizz just recently nerfed the instance quest XP, which is a shame for people really wanting to level fast. I got over 2 full levels from 28-30 in just a single run of Gnomeragan doing the quests. And basically went from 15-30 only doing instances without repeating except for BFD because it took multiple runs to collect the items for the quest.

And for those of you wondering, YES, Gnomeragan is still a horribly boring instance that takes far too long to complete at level.

Its insane even without BOA gear now. With very well laid out quest lines and LFD; if you tank or heal; you will roll through levels. Leveling 70 to 80 is also 25% faster now.

When you take this example, a company with millions to invest in the game and such a nice end-product, it makes you wonder how tough it is for other companies to compete. So many have gone down in flames or play-for-free...

WoW is truly unique.

Hmmm. I rolled a gnome priest last week, and when I hit level 20 in Loch Modan, I think I had done a total of three quests which were repeats from before and I have six level 80s and a few in the 50s, so I'm pretty familiar with the zones. My priest is level 62 now, and all through the zones, there were tons of new quests; I'm guessing probably 2/3rds of them were new. The only zone I did which was pretty much unchanged as far as quests was Dustwallow Marsh.

Overall, I would have to say hats off to Blizzard, and it's not until you really play through all the zones you see how big some of the changes were......certainly bigger than doing a few quests in one of the starting areas or riding around, sightseeing will let on. Many of the changes are more than skin deep and I for one, am really looking forward to all the new zones to quest in, and the new raids, and archeology, not to mention I already have a worgen placeholder name set aside. ;) For sure I wish WoW would get a major, and I mean *major* graphic overhaul (though a lot of the engine tweaks make it easier on the eyes), but as far as actual 'game' goes? Definitely not in the disappointed category.

I'm kind of curious what they could do to make the graphics better. They're pretty much using the Art-style that was in Warcraft III. In general, the graphics they provide now pretty much completely cover the demands set by the art-style. That's actually a pretty novel thing as well. It's just like the Mario games. They pretty much captured the proper graphics to represent the style a generation or two ago. Thus all future mario games hardly ever need to take up more powerful hardware to represent them.

On the other hand, it would be an interesting and bold manuever to kick up the graphics knowing they'll probably have to *enhance* the art-style. It would be interesting to see the reaction to it, from the established community. Perhaps, Blizzard ought to start posting some concept images of a new Warcraft art style, to see how people take to them.

Must... resist... temptation to reroll and start playing again... I'm hoping this will be the expansion I can ignore and never play again..

I just started a new toon and was happy to see many quests have changed. Made starting from level 1 more enjoyable. Glad to see the changes.

WIll buy cataclysm tomorrow, but not going to a midnight release or anything.

Damn. I had hoped to come back and get moral support of my attempt to stay away from WoW.

sorry guys... i loved wow a since it appeared and liked to play it for about 4 years.

now with cataclysm i feel its the same sh** as a few years ago. same boring quests.. kill four blabla here.. bring me 8 blablabla.

Not sure if you noticed or not, but supposedly they were gonna get rid of some of the "low quest-drop rates" so that the "grind" isn't so boring to new players. Some zones also have "phasing", where the terrain and NPC's and objects change when you completed parts of a quest chain, thus "openning up" new areas withing the same setting. Some zones also stress an element of "war" and pvp.

Yeah, I agree on the graphics. They should make a "high graphics client" like EVE Online does. I mean, they let you tweak it a lot, but it would be nice to like see "fur" on bears and such.

Just picked up a copy at lunch time.

I shall post again in a few days...
