My iPad fell face flat on the ground off my bed in the middle of the night (don't ask). Must have been about a 3ft fall onto a hardwood floor and there's not the slightest scratch, dent or crack on it so I think someone must have done something to it for the screen to scratch. Seems pretty difficult to scratch these things (like my iPhone that comes in and out of my jeans every 10 minutes a day and still is in pristine condition).

Someone on here mentioned that two of their friends got scratches on their iPads because of the Apple Case. You may want to look into that. It may be just the reason you need to return and exchange your iPad.

It really wouldn't surprise me as that case attracts everything it comes in contact with.

I told them it was the Apple Case. They didn't seem to care.

I'm not going to waste anymore time trying to take it to different stores or different times for different results.

You really have to shine a flash light and tilt it at an angle to see it. It's very very light.

If it bothers me, or gets worse, I'll just call SquareTrade.

This is why I always order a screen protector

I have always bought screen protectors at the Apple Store. But they didn't have any for the iPad. So I figured, I'll buy the Apple Case and be safe. Oh well.

Personally, I would prefer a scratch over a screen protector. Those things are lousy. Crud builds up along the edges, bubble form, and they change the feel of the surface.

Not true for all screen protectors. The power support brand feels just like bare glass and doesn't degrade touch sensitivity. You scratch the screen and you just peel it off. Pricey though but worth it IMO.

I have a antiglare screen protector from Power Support. Cost $30 after shipping and arrived in a few days. Removes finger prints and most glare. Well worth the money

Yup - I put one on right out of the box. Powersupport crystal film - clear (not a fan of anti-glare). Managed to get it on straight and dust free...

I use them on my iPhone too. Tried going without on my iPhone for a week after reading in these forums that the screen does not scratch and.... It scratched. No idea how.

I noticed on my wifes iPad she has a speck of dust under her screen. She doesn't know it yet and I don't think I will tell her.

I'd tell her, it took me almost a week to notice mine had dust under the screen.

I tried to "deal" with it but after a day or two the fact that i dropped $900 bucks on this thing after taxes made me feel like i deserved one in pristine condition.

They replaced it and now i won't open the new one till my screen protector comes in.

I've got the apple case, which i think is an ok case for the average person but i hate the way it transfers dust to the ipad screen when its closed.

I'm currently looking for a better solution. I'm hoping trojan is going to make a latex case for it sans reservoir tip.

Since the ipad is magical why wouldn't it become magically scratched?

Those are the same screen protectors that I used to install on my iPhone. IMHO, they do detract from the use of the iPhone. Plus, my other comments about them still apply such as getting cruddy around the edges, or getting bubbles under them as soon as they get pushed off the the glass.

For me... I would strongly prefer the naked glass, rather than have a diminished usage experience.

Luckily my scratch is not visible whatsoever unless you hold it when it's off, and in a weird angle and under high light.

So, I'm cool. No screen protector still for me.

I've gotten over it already :)

I have also a scratch on it, and i now for sure i didn;t drop it or used some kind of a steel pin or something. I really dont know how it came there

It sucks, but then again....its a device which has to be used, and when you use something........

I also have one ugly ass scratch on my screen.
I really don't know how it got there. I have been very careful with my iPad.

Hahahah. Yes I'm sure. And yes, magic definitely. Honestly, I have no idea how it happened.

Anyhow, negative on the swap. I went there today at lunch. 1:10pm in the Westchester Mall in NY. No go. "Scratches are not covered under warranty.". This is what I said to the employees. "My screen is scratched. I have not dropped or abused it. I just noticed it today. I have had it in the case since day 1. It could have even came like this." They replied "Scratches are not covered under warranty."

You can't even really see it unless you are searching for it. I also do have a SquareTrade warranty. So I can always use that if necessary.

Oh well, it was worth a try.
You'd be better off trying to get them to let you "upgrade" assuming you something less than the iPad 64GB 3G. They're more likely to do that. Granted it will cost you $100-$129 but like other people have said, you can't expect them to cover accidental damage which is what this falls under.

I'm sorry you gotta scratch though. It happens. I bought my iPad to enjoy it not stress over scratches. That said buying a screen protector is smart.
