Glad I could oblige
I have a severe bias against Microsoft because of the damage they did during the 1990's with their completely illegal business practices, substandard software and their general lack of morality. Yes, I STILL haven't gotten over it.
MS is getting back in the right direction, too bad the Office apps require a subscription :/
This isn't anywhere near as onerous as people make it out to be. You get 27gb of storage along with it (really 7gb free plus an extra 20gb) versus paying $40 for 20gb total of icloud storage. I think it's fair to adjust the Office sub price for this to $60, and that's for 5 licenses. I think the increased functionality of Office for $5 is well worth it and the people who tend to complain about $5/month are not using it professionally anyhow.
I really am liking the Nokia 635 with the colored backs. Reminds me of the Windows Phone 8.1 version of the iPhone 5c.
I agree in regards to iOS apps....
But Office on Windows a Phone doesn't require subscription ?
I'm not sure I understand your question.
well the poster you responded to in regards that they didn't like paying for Office 365 and you eloquently expressed its virtues, but my point / question is simply how is the price of office relevant when Office is free on a Windows Phone (no sub required) unless I'm probably missing something...
Isn't Office is free on the iPhone too?
Isn't Office is free on the iPhone too?
I'm not sure what anyone's getting at

I'm still confused. Office on ipad or android tablet is subscription based. Office on an iphone or android phone is free. The person I was responding to was making a general comment on the subscription, he didn't allude to which device he was using. I would assume if he was complaining about the subscription then he was alluding to a device which required one. .
Obviously not the development of Office for iPad, but there is the possibility that Nadella brings a different agenda and a different perspective on things. It's quite possible that Ballmer wanted to sit on releasing Office for iPad for some particular business strategy he had. Don't know for certain, but it is possible.Do you honestly think all of this could have happened this fast after Balmer leaving?
You don't know that. Some are saying that is true but doesn't make it actually true. There are financial incentives for Apple to encourage people to think that Jobs has a lasting influence. We still have Steve Jobs partially affecting apple.
That's where the confusion lay - I just assumed he was alluding to windows phone and therefore we were talking about office on iOS / android phone
Yeah I'm still on iOS as my main phone. I've been looking for a reason to ditch them for a long time, but nothing better has come out. But I see Microsoft making some very smart moves today, this may just finally sway me over.
Windows apps are universal now, dev only has to write one app, very nice.
No license fee for Windows for any device 9" and under, very nice.
Cortana looks pretty amazing, very nice.
Lumia 930 looks stunning. Yeah they copied the iphone, that's a plus.
Touch native Office in action, very nice.
WP 8.1 brings WP up to date, Cortana, notifications, etc.
Win 8.1 melds metro and desktop together better
Dev tools to take existing legacy/desktop apps, keep underlying code and apply a new UI, VERY nice, WOW
Looks like getting Balmer out of there was key to finally thinking the right way. This is going to be an exciting year for sure with Microsoft now truly entering the arena. This is only day one, who knows what will be announced tomorrow...
plus the wireless charging is just awesome, it may sound petty, but I got the little official wireless charger dock thing and it's great to just plonk the phone on it, no messy cables or docks.
It should work with even cheaper Qi chargers. At least I have stellar results with my Nexus 7 2013 (in a comparatively thick case) and a $28 Qi charger ordered from Amazon. It was long ago that I last used a cable to recharge my tablet.
And yes, anyone ridiculing Qi charging is either a blind Apple fanboy (who will start praising Qi if and when Apple incorporates it into their devices) or just doesn't have a clue.
No offence but it sounds me as though you have already made your decision Go and try it, really.
I was very nervous because of all the apps I've invested in on iOS, but you know what? I thought screw it! I just had enough with the dreadful iOS7 and poor iPhone 5 build quality, and when the Nexus 5 was launched I was in love and switched, I have not looked back since.
I love Apple computers, but find iOS to be a joke now.
So if you fancy a change then do it, if you don't like it then when your contract is up switch back.
Lifes too short to ponder on these things and you never know if you don't try.
With my Nexus 5, the screen size of 4.95" and the 1080P resolution is fantastic, so much more space in not a lot bigger device, plus the wireless charging is just awesome, it may sound petty, but I got the little official wireless charger dock thing and it's great to just plonk the phone on it, no messy cables or docks.
And Nokia have great build and screens and I bet the camera is really good too.
Oh and I think the processor in the 930 is the same as the Nexus 5, and let me tell you it is utterly stupidly ridiculously fast! It multitasks like a bitch! Games, apps, anything, it just doesn't slow down!
Price was the only thing keeping me with Android. I couldn't stand the poor battery life (even charging once a day is too much, IMO). When I was able to get an affordable iPhone 4, I really appreciated the tremendous battery life. 2 years later I'm still getting nearly 3 days before I need to charge it.I'm definitely going to try it out. Android never was able to pull me away from iOS, but at the same time I've never been satisfied with iOS. I will definitely be grabbing a 930 when it's released and then will see what Apple brings in September.
The 930, from what I read is only international and no carrier branded GSM one is set to be released. Will the 930 work on AT&T LTE bands?
