cheap does not equal good
You can get cheap PC laptops for under 600 bucks but in general they suck. I just installed some software on a guy's brand new Dell Inspiron 2200 (their cheapest) which he bragged about getting for $500 or something like that. Incredibly cheap feeling, very slow, plus of course it has Windows. It came with the most cheap ticky-tack software from Dell to do the stuff that iLife does so well, plus it had to be loaded up with anti-virus and anti-spyware software plus all the XP security stuff. The whole thing was a POS, IMO. Made my Powerbook so nice - yeah, it was 1800 bucks but worth every cent.
