It sounds like based on your replies and OP that the 11” or whatever semi-close to that size would be good, since you already had it and since you find the 13” too big for convenient travel. Having only had the “regular” size myself, I can’t say for sure but having traveled a lot with this 11” it’s perfect for me, I could *maybe* see myself trying out a Mini size someday, the portability is really appealing especially if you’re doing mostly reading. (I do a lot of writing/editing so I must have a tactile keyboard.)

If it’s an option / convenient you could use their 14-day return window and try out the Mini. But personally I’d vote for the 11” or similar size, seems like the best of both worlds.

I have a iPad Pro 12.9", a mini 6 and iPhone 12 Pro which means I'm covered for all bases.

Like you, the iPad Pro is probably a bit overkill, but I like the 12.9" screen - I wish there was a 12.9" Air, but until that day comes I'll probably stick with the Pro.

I usually take my iPad mini 6 with me on weekend trips and longer holidays. It's great for reading and super handy to watch things on the plane or train. Also, being slightly bigger than the iPhone means it's great for browsing the web/planning day trips. It's a great size to toss in a day bag. I don't have cellular but if I feel like I want to do something on a larger screen while out and about I Hotspot to my phone.

To answer most of the questions, it would mainly be for more screen real estate than my phone, and though I do use my keyboard sometimes on my pro when traveling, it’s not a necessity I don’t think. I wouldn’t invest in the keyboard for the base iPad I don’t think - just too redundant, and brings the cost up a bit much for a travel device.

Reading just isn’t good on the phone, and though I know a Kindle would be better for that, I’d prefer to buy something that would have other functions for me.
Have you considered not bringing the MK?

Acceptable screen size is subjective enough that maybe you should get the Mini before one of your trips and see how it goes. Also consider a used previous generation iPad Air instead of an iPad 10.
