Normally, at this point in the life cycle of the iPhone I might say to wait.

I've never understood comments like this. A Sept announcement is still 6+ months away and release / in hands is 7 to 8 months away..

Are we now to the point where t's prudent to wait for the next release 1 day after release because you know, the next one is only 11 months and 29 days away...

The X was released on Nov 3rd I believe which was a whopping 4 months ago.

Since you hold phones for a really long time, go get the X.

The next release is months away and the X is good enough for the next 4 years. The next model is not going to be a massive upgrade from the X.

Enjoy your iPhone X.

Just how bad is the red eye/white eye issue? Thats almost a deal breaker for me. Thats the only thing stopping me from getting it at the moment.

I honestly have not had any issues with redeye. I do know others reporting it happens. But none of my low light photos have proven to show that yet.

If it were a big problem, the forum would be replete with many, many people up in arms about such, not to mention MacRumors posting a story about it on the front page.

I think you are fine for purchase.

I came from iPhone 5, bought the SE when it came out. I finally took the plunge and bought iPhone X on launch day because iOS 11 destroyed the battery life on my SE.

It was a huge upgrade for me. And the iPhone X is worth it.

But my advice to you is to wait for the 2018 iPhone X because of the refinements and improvements that comes with the 2nd year device.

Battery life on my iPhone X isn’t that great as people make it out to be, the OLED screen is on par with retina at this time. I can’t even tell the difference. In fact the iPhone X screen seems dimmer compared to retina.

Again, I can live with it, but the refinements will come this year. Wait for it and get the 2018 iPhone X version or whatever it will be called.

I’d say most people can tell the difference. Not disparaging you, but my wife’s X compared to my 8+ is very apparent. My 5 year old even asked me why mom has a better phone lol. I prefer the 8+ for other reasons.

You've waited over 5 years. There's no reason not to wait for the new one at this point. 5 years vs 5 years 6 months is insignificant.

I definitely agree with this. Just wait it out. The iPhone X is a beta phone at this time.

I say if you want it, go for it!

If you can wait, wait.

I'd go based on the cost of repair to the need for better hardware. If it were me, I'd upgrade. The 5 is only 32bit. Getting a newer device now is good timing. If I had a 5s or newer, repairing would be considered.
