I think the top reason to do so in your case would be your preference for Touch ID. Some specs are going to favor the SE, some are going to favor the X, probably not a lot in either direction: but Touch ID vs. Face ID is a real difference where you get one or the other.

OLED vs LCD, too. Personally, I've yet to use an OLED device that doesn't trigger my migraines.

See my profile picture? I had an SE and then got my iphone X. I never want the screen the size of a credit card ever again!!!!! I am a small woman (only 4'10) and my iphone X is not to big to fit in my jean pockets.

X to SE is a downgrade. If you can't stand the size of the X or can't stand Face ID, get the SE. Otherwise I don't see a reason.

Today it looks that way sure, but in 1-2 years the A11 may be the thing that slows the X down.

Just like the A13 will ultimately have the same fate... I upgrade every 2-3 years, the chip has never been a limiting factor. I still have my 6S as a backup and the performance is perfectly acceptable for a 5 year old phone

The A-series chip of more recent generations is the least of the iPhone's problems. Outside of giving up 2 years of iOS updates there's not a lot that the SE 2020 gives you as an advantage. Basically the SE 2020 is an iPhone 8 (same generation as the X) with an A13 processor. Unless you're an Apple shareholder I'm not sure what the gain is in comparison to going straight to the iPhone 12.

Well I'm on a Xs currently, and want the SE because the size mostly. I prefer LCD screens too, so you are not the only one.

On the slip side, I would kill for the original SE with the internals of the 11pro.

Well to go straight to the 12 will be triple the cost. The price is the only thing that makes this tempting. If this was $699 it wouldn't even be a discussion.

"Downgrades from X to SE"

* 5.8" OLED -> 4.7" LCD
* Dual 12mp rear camera -> Single 12mp camera
* Face ID -> Touch ID
* 3D Touch -> Haptic Touch
* 2x Optical Zoom -> Digital Zoom only

"Upgrades from X to SE"

* A11 -> A13 Processor
* Standard Dynamic Range -> Extended dynamic range for videos up to 30fps
* Mono video recording -> stereo recording
* Portrait lighting 5 effects -> 6 effects
* LTE Advanced -> Gigabit Class LTE
* 802.11ac -> 802.11ax Wifi 6
* Nano-SIM -> Dual SIM
* Likely no existing warranty -> New warranty start

That is really the tipping point for me. Getting a phone for ~$100 that should have two years more worth of support, and if the 12 doesn't tempt me, I got the most value out of the X in terms of trade in.

I checked Swappa and it looks like you could squeeze some more value out of your X if you sell it there. Assuming yours is in "mint" condition. Looking forward to your comparison.

Good list. Depending on one's preferences, Face ID to Touch ID might be an upgrade as well. I also understand that OLED gives some people headaches, so that may be an upgrade as well to a few people.

I use to always sell on Swappa or Craigslist, but the second-hand market isn't what it was 4-5 years ago. The apple trade-ins are so easy it's worth the time I save.

Definitely will post a follow-up thread after a few days of side by side usage.
