According to notebookcheck the 3dmark06 comes in at more than 3 times greater for the X1600. It is a vastly superior performer when compared to the X3100. The 3dmark03 is VERY old.
The GMA X3100 surprising holds its own in the much older less demanding 3DMark03 test though.

I'll be building a gaming mini-tower as it is. My MacBook is all business. ;)

I guess if you are a fan of older games it certainly is value for money. Its probably the most common GPU in the world now, or will be soon.
Dawn of War and Joint Operations both from 2004. Run just fine on a Geforce Go 5650 too.

I live on those two games.

Company of Heroes gets to play on the tower.

I really wanted to insert a joke in here due to the recent treatment you have had by quite a few people on here but I fear my tongue in cheek joke would get misinterpreted. Hope you know what I mean.

I know what you mean.

I wonder why I got that treatment too. :(

I didn't report them though. I didn't think it was serious for the first time.

It is quite weird.

One was an ignorant reference to anime/manga porn so perhaps they made assumptions based on your avatar. I thought this one comment in particular was quite venomous.

This is incredibly off topic... and not at all inquiring about yalls conversation... but why do you guys have macrumors # under your names? Just been around that long?

That's not at all surprising, which is why I mentioned the limitations of synthetic benchmarks - we all know that real-world performance with production cards "in the wild" can be very different than synthetic benchmarks performed with pre-production hardware.

The main point I was trying to make is that while the X3100 seems to blow the GMA 950 out of the water (and probably does), it is still a couple generations behind the current midrange mobile chips from ATI and NVIDIA.

Still, the new MacBook should play games like WoW very well, so I think will satisfy most casual gamers.

I always viewed the Futuremark's 3Dmark series as a good relative guide to gauging card performance based on games produced around that time. The X3100 will probably come quite close to the performance of the X1600 in a 4 year old game. A newer game would be different.

Good point - raw performance is one thing, but feature sets are another...otherwise the MacBook could probably use a die-shrunk Radeon 9800XT. ;)
