Anyone know when this will be released on the MAS? I already own XCOM: EU, will it be DLC or a separate app?

Thanks

The Mac AppStore version will come in the next week or so. Apple have a few special sandboxing rules etc that require changes to the game packaging plus a submissions process to go through so the game didn't make launch day.

It's already released on Steam :)

We will announce once we get a final date for App Store customers.

But the Mac version on Steam will be available on launch day right? Looking forward to spending my weekend with it. :)

It's already out in North America on Steam (Tuesday) and will go live in the rest of the world on Friday.

Same day release Mac/PC

Once we have a date I will post here just in case you don't visit the Feral site, App Store etc.

Cheers,

Just wanted to give this thread a bump :)
XCOM Within runs amazing in Mac OSX!
The game is very much fun to play again with all the new stuff!

Great job on the port!

A bit off topic, but with Mavericks improved screen handling, will multi monitor gaming be possible on mac osx?

I know XCOM doesn't support that, not even in win, but so many new games support running on triple monitors, even older games like neverwinter nights 2 runs amazing in 5220x1050 res in windows. And if it's possible, will feral be interested in doing so?

Yes we have been interested for years, it was never possible when we first looked into it, it *might* be possible now but it's not the easiest thing to do and we have some other things to investigate like DX11 graphics calls first.

It is on my investigate list ;)

How does Enemy Within mesh with Enemy Unknown?
I've only just infiltrated the first big alien spaceship in EU so I assume I have quite a few more missions to go.

Is EW a separate set of adventures to go on after you've completed the first game, or does it insert it's DNA into the main game/story line?

enemy within for app store purchase.

still no sign of an update for the app store purchase of enemy unknown, any idea when this may be happening? Loved the first and itching to get the expansion!

VSP it's still the original story line of unknown, just with a lot more upgrades, weapons and modifications added. A few new characters and side stories have been added too, well worth the money by the looks of it.

It's the entire game again just with more Maps etc. It is not like extra missions it is like the same game just with more maps, weapons power ups etc.

If you select "Enemy Unknown" you get the original game (with blue loading screens). If you select "Enemy Within" (orange loading screens) you get the same game just with extra content included throughout the entire story mode.

Pretty sure there are new Council missions, and the Covert Ops definitely count as new missions. And at least one surprise mission I don't want to spoil...

I know Deluge and Furies are definitely new missions, maybe one or two more?

I've only played through the game 3 times so far, but I noticed new stuff with Enemy Within, unless I just missed it in my first playthrough of Unknown?

Yes it has loads of new items etc my point was its the same story just with more details and options throughout. It is not your traditional tacked on extra missions at the end of the game. Every area has been improved.

:)

Im sort of surprised at how apple is dealing with this. After reading your comments I kinda made my mind up that im not going to buy much via the App Store anymore.

If other platforms like steam are much earlier to release a game,DLC or updates then Apple they kind of put themselves out of the market. It's also not like they have the monopoly they have on iOS, so they should learn their place a bit in all this.

Had the same thing with photoshop elements a few weeks back, current version is 11 in the App Store, but version 12 is already released. for more or less the same price.

Now I can see advantages of having an App Store, but not like this..

Any chance on a discount if I buy the original game again via steam (Already bought xcom via App Store) :p

Not really. A lot of customers don't buy games or apps on day one. We've learned to wait for feedback, fixes and price reductions you know?

I understand some enjoy living on the bleeding edge but it definitely isn't for everyone by any means.

I prefer Steam for games myself but I don't mind getting games on the App Store if they are not on Steam. I'd much rather get them there than someplace else but that's just my preference.

Yeah you are right of course, but if the mac app store works anything like the app store on iOS, its hard to update small bugs, because a new version needs to be significantly different. Also every new version goes through the same evaluation process that can take a lot of time as is shown in this case.

Now don't get me wrong I like the idea of a Mac Appstore, but steam seems to be the platform of choice for games for now.

I second this, making it visible that you are not the only one disappointed by the very long wait. The game _has_ been out on steam for quite a while now. I have been lurking this thread, following it for some time now. And still nothing on there.

My guess is that this hasn't been submitted to Apple yet for review.

I can't comment on release date as I don't have any firm dates (when I do I will post).

We are not sat at Feral with the Mac App Store version ready to be release dressed as Dr Evil saying "Lets delay the game again for Mac App Store users until we get 1 million complaint" while having out little finger next to our mouth. :)

We are working flat out to get the none Steam build approved by all parties and released. I hope to have some good news soon.

I understand that, was just pointing out that this isn't an Apple/MAS release issue.

Just to be clear, I don't think anybody is blaming you guys for this, I certainly am not. I completely understand you're putting hard work and devotion in it. It just raises a broader question on is it wise to buy games via the Mac Appstore...

In all fairness, I just bought xcom again on steam together with enemy within... It's on discount on steam, so I figured what the heck.. It will give me many hours of entertainment and its worth it... still strange that I have to do this when I already own a legal copy... guess im just impatient :p

Just to be clear we have been releasing games since we the first day of Mac AppStore (with LEGO Harry Potter as I recall) and this is the biggest delay between the other versions on the Mac AppStore. Sometimes these things happen for various reasons but we hope to have it all solved soon!

Thanks for all the understanding and support we really appreciate it and want to pay you all back with a great bug free experience as quickly as possible.
